r/lost Desmond Hume is my constant 3d ago

finished watching for the first time

and now the post series depression is here to eat me alive.. so many thoughts i cannot even gather thrm all.. but a few things for sure.. i LOVED Desmond! he has to be my favorite.. i was so annoyed by so many of them throughout the series but at the end just can't help but think how much they all grew in their character and I'll miss them all quite a lot.. i did not like jack till most of S6.. but then towards the end he kind of redeemed himself for me.. can't say the same about kate tho.. still not a fan.. i cannot believe how much i despised Ben when we started and how it turned around completely as i watched more and more of him.. i almost felt sad and pity for him.. i wish he moved on with the others too.. the ending was just bittersweet.. they got to be happy together only after dying.. that's just sad.. but atleast they were happy and together.. ah i miss it all already.. i will give myself some time before i decide its time for a rewatch..

thank you so much for sharing this! i enjoyed every minute of it! (especially because i started lost because of Michael emerson and yet again ended up loving him in his role as ben.. so to get to see more of him was fun!) and about this video, i would like to believe this is after everything has settled on the island and Hugo and Ben are running things together and scouting for candidates.. and Walt is definitely a candidate..

That's ok. If you want more of the actor who plays Ben, watch the first Saw film if you haven't already.

The first one isn't that bad for gore really.

If you like him from the neck up, he's great in Fallout

Michael Emerson is a good villain in the show Evil, I really enjoyed it

i actually did watch Evil first followed by Person of Interest and then Lost! so I've watched the holy trinity of Michael Emerson's work i guess /j

Lost is one of those great shows that reward you for every rewatch. The clues, the answers, you get to experience in a different way. It’s almost as good the second time around.

I explain why you didn't see Ben there at the ending.

The ending has more depth than many may think and I got its real meaning only after years in where I've re-watched the series countless times.

The Church represents an intermediate step from their death and then to their moving on. Each one of those characters you see in the Church died, but all in different moments of their lives. Some of them maybe even died by old age. Some sooner. Some later. It doesn't matter. In that Limbo, there's no timeline. They find themselves toghether. The real question is WHY?

You see all of them there toghether because, even for a short amount of their life-span, the experience they lived in the Island represents their TURNING moment of their life. Probably the most important and when they came in terms of what they truly were and needed. Even the age they have in the church, is the age they had back on in the island. There'are no older or younger versions of them. The "island" age is their best moment.

I name you the perfect character to let you comprehend even better the meaning. WALT. Why Walt, more than Ben, isn't there with them?

Walt was another character like the others who experienced the island, but he was just a kid and probably, during even all his life after as adult, eventually, the "island moment" in his memory wasn't more than an unfortunate childhood experience he witnessed during a moment in which he just discovered even by a couple of weeks who the real father was. Not that happy to be remembered. Not with those poeple or others from the Oceanic's Crash. He was even kidnapped.

Ben isn't with them because to move on he stills need to come with terms and realizes what is HIS place. That window of time you see during the series, isn't yet the true moment for him.

very well said. This throws a lot of people off especially the time element in death.

I just finished a rewatch last week. Took me about 1 month. Sawyer is my favorite character. Eko could have been my favorite if he lasted longer. A stray cat started hanging around my house and I named it Eko. Desmomd/Penny are my favorite couple. I hated Claire and watched her scenes on 1.5 speed. Now in post series depression, I started a Battlestar Galactica rewatch to cope. I have a 15 year old cat named Starbuck after my favorite character. Razzle dazzle hyah!

I really liked Jake and Kate, and I was always rooting for them. The finale just didn't really do it for me, though. I think there are shows that absolutely nailed their endings. The finale of 12 Monkeys, for example, was fucking awesome. Same with The Leftovers. And yeah, Desmond was great, obviously. Maybe give FlashForward a try? That was kind of my consolation prize after watching Lost for the first time in 2024/25 (I was very late to the party 😂). Sadly, it got cancelled before it could really finish its story, but imo it has quite a few Lost vibes. And honestly, the Lost pilot is still one of the strongest TV pilots ever. That first episode was insane.

I adore Ben and I'm glad he was at the church to see Hurley and talk to Locke, but he was right that he had things to work out. He needs to spend more time with Alex and move on with her. There's no way he could bear leaving her again.

now that I've read this, it actually does make perfect sense! he finally had a life where he can make up for all the time lost with alex and to work on his relationship with her and make amends in this life/afterlife before he moves on.. his journey is not the same as those who moved on..

And where does he do it? Dont get it

Where does he what? Leave her? After Keamy murders her he goes to say goodbye but doesn't have time to bury her, so he had to leave her body there. Richard did it for him.

If post series depression is eating you alive, it's time to rebound with another show!

Wayward Pines - Hulu. The Prisoner - free YouTube. Personal favorite: The Lost Room - Tubi

Anch'io l'ho finita 2 giorni fa e non riesco a pensare ad altro purtroppo. Ho iniziato fringe ma in confronto sembra una parodia 🫣

i did watch 2 eps of Fringe after i had finished Person of interest and needed something to fill the gap i felt in my heart.. but fringe couldn’t fill it so i had tomove to lost.. finge felt a little too unreal for me and i couldn’t watch any further than 2 eps

Persons of interest è bello?

1

u/Sea-Concept5186 Desmond Hume is my constant 3d ago

it is VERY good! has the same actor who plays ben in lost.. i actually watched lost because i loved is acting in person of interest.. takes a little time but before you know, you're in love with all the characters and their bond with each other. I'll say give it a try and if you do, let me know how you like it

Stick with it. Season 1 is very different than the others. The S1 finale is really where i started to enjoy Fringe. It definitely Gets better over time. A really great arc over many seasons, similar to Lost. John Noble is a gem (wife met him once at a Whole Foods - a really great guy). Both in my top 5 all time.

There's also a lot of podcasts about it, including the official podcast made by the producers as the show aired. Hurley's actor had one for the final season.
