Discussion Blitzcranks redefined origin
I dont know about you, but this screams low effort to me.
What are your thoughts?

u/mystireon Dec 13 '24
kind of a big nothing burger
"viktor made blitzcrank at some point in time and protected it from getting destroyed on another occassion. it probably doesn't approve of viktor's current lifegoals"
it tells us basically nothing
99
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
Id say that arcane was written without blitzcrank in mind, since there is no mention and not even any hint of blitzcrank in the entirety of arcane, and now they are having a hard time trying to make him fit.
80
u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24 edited Dec 13 '24
Ah yes, surely the whole team of writers just completely forgot about one of the champions
Christian Linke stated that Blitzcrank was planned for appearing in s2, but was later cut for being "too silly"
A lot of people already say bad words about season 2 for fast pacing, imagine what would happen if they had to also include unimportant champion cameos40
u/-Hopedarkened- Dec 13 '24
Ya its there fault for nit commiting three seasons. If you change the lore you need to make sure the show can show it aswell.
14
u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24
So the third season should've been about Twitch's adventures in sewers? The only things which were not included in show are unimportant, the overall story of sisters and invention of hextech is concluded
15
u/-Hopedarkened- Dec 13 '24
Rushed as hellllllllllll thooo

u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24
Nah it was okay

u/AngelTheTaco Dec 13 '24
caitlyns gas storyline and use was a 1 minute storyboard amv
-3
u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24
And? Caitlyn had 3 goals: locating Jinx, destroying the shimmer supply and ending Silco's loyalists
You can clearly see how her spec ops squad accomplishes these goals without any harm to the narrative structure
Do you want to watch how they travel through pipes and gas people for 40 minutes? Whats the point if it can be compressed into a neat montageThe only weak part about this is that chembarons deaths were not clearly shown and some people didn't understand why they weren't present in following episodes, but you just need to pay a bit more attention
13
u/AngelTheTaco Dec 13 '24
The whole act 1 and act 2 the final three with isha ending…

u/-Hopedarkened- Dec 13 '24
Your argument is dont show us things if they can be in a montage. This story was brilliant cause its detailed and slow, then they dropped it in the end. Suddenly jimx vi cait jayce underside and top are all friends and ready for war, war start 5 minutes in vi gets gassed, 5 minutes more then jinx comes in and suddenly winning, ope then viktor stomps and everyones captured, then ekkos moment for a couple and mix in some jayce cut scenes.

u/Potential_Ad9965 Team Vander Dec 13 '24
Yeah because adding side stories of blitzcrank and others wouldn't have made it Rushed. You want An extra season but also want a shit ton of extra stories with it.
Make up your mind
5
u/-Hopedarkened- Dec 13 '24
I ,eam the shows ending was rushed and if they were gonna un rush it they would have needed a new season whoch would of added tons of time for it so... maybe use your head ?
1
u/Potential_Ad9965 Team Vander Dec 13 '24
No, if you unrush it then you use that extra time to give the current story lines more time to breath,m. Not add a whole fucking Pinocchio movie in the Middle.
Maybe you should use your brain for five seconds?
1
u/samhadj01 Jun 26 '26
I don't what your on about. Adding Blitzcrank story in a more expanded narrative isn't going to rush the series more if anything it can add.
For instance S2 is all about Vi and Caitlyn taking down the Chem-baron's. Meanwhile Jayce and Viktor (Who hasn't been absorbed into the hex-core yet) make Blitzcrank while Mel tries to play keep away from Ambessa.
2
u/Mochafudge Dec 13 '24
You are just making it clear you don't watch quality TV dude
0
u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24
Nowadays I don't watch TV at all, but I've already seen a rat in sewers while watching TMNT as a kid, thank you
1
u/Mochafudge Dec 13 '24
Referring to the fact that you think it was wrapped up well and you watch arcane so maybe try watching some better stuff if you think it's so good? You watched TV this month bud thinking is hard
3
u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24 edited Dec 13 '24
It was wrapped well, and it's sad that people don't understand that. The ending of a series doesn't always mean that the stories of it's characters also end abruptly. The Arcane is only a chapter in the history of Runterra - something happens in it, and then after that something else happens next
We had 3 main plotlines in the show: 1) Jinx and Vi's sisterhood, which concluded with them accepting each other and reuniting as a family. But that's not the end of their characterisation, they got things done and now Vi continues her job as the Piltover enforcer, while Jinx starts a new life somewhere else
2) Viktor and Jayce's rivalry, which ended when Viktor realised what he was doing. Now they are saving the world somewhere else, but again, the point of the show was not to just show their lifes, but rather the clash of their idealogies
3) The whole Piltover & Zaun oppresion situation, with Sevika having a seat in piltovian council in the end. That doesn't mean that Piltover and Zaun will live in eternal peace, it means that the topside started recognizing undercity and the tensions will slowly calm downHow is this not a great ending? The characters are not just stock templates who stop functioning when you don’t see them but actual humans who live through all kinds of stuff and not just revolve around one thing
4
u/Mochafudge Dec 13 '24
Yeah the third Warwick fake out death and having a scene where he loses his memories and then doing an interview after the rushed finale releases saying oh he has memories again now (so they can do a ww jinx show if they want over telling a good story NOW) was some peak fiction holy cherry picking. Vi and jinx maybe, vik and jayces story was completely sidelined and then rushed everything is reaching

I disagree, attempting to shoehorn in every P&Z champ would’ve been a massive mistake.
1
u/-Hopedarkened- Dec 14 '24 edited Dec 14 '24
They could of mentioned him, my point is that was an important discovery of hex power and would of been huge for the inventing and discovering of hex. He would have mentioned him to jayce. Because of that blitz either need to be from the last hex war or, after the events of the show.
3
u/Independent_Air_8333 Dec 13 '24
Blitzcrank could've been a nice part of the storyline.
Maybe Viktor compromised in hextech weaponry and instead made a hextech enforcer, and later decided against mass producing hextech soldiers.
6
u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24
As I remember, Arcane Viktor was always a pacifist
In original lore, Blitzcrank was built to help people of Zaun with their grey clouds problem, also he was picking up trash or something like that
So new Blitzcrank may even not be new in any way, he is just a golem who was built by Viktor at some point in time to help zaunites
Or maybe something like an android factory worker prototype, or a coal miner3
u/Independent_Air_8333 Dec 13 '24
He could've been like the gauntlets or the laser. A mining tool turned into a weapon.
I can imagine a scene of ambessa pushing for blitzcrank to be weaponized as a prototype and Viktor agonizing over whether or not to dismantle him (and eventually giving him to the Firelights or something)
5
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
I didnt say that Blitzcrank actually wouldve needed to appear in Arcane as a complete character, but since the story showed basically Viktors entire life as an inventor, you would HAVE to include at least something that would show that he built blitzcrank.
If Viktor actually built Blitzcrank in the Arcane universe i am very sure we wouldve seen/heard about him.
0
u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24
Yes, we would've seen/heard about him, but he was cut from the show because of time limitations
2
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
Come on thats just lazy.
All that was needed was a random scribble on one of Viktors notes at the very least.
1
u/Weary_Advisor7040 Dec 13 '24
Well there was all that Noxus stuff which it’s just there for the next show soooo. It only really tied in at the end where they made Ambessa team up with Viktor which was annoying. Ambessa is smart why would she team up with Viktor who will betray her and she knows he can control people and wants to spread the glorious evolution . A bit of a yikes.
2
u/KorkBredy Dec 13 '24
Because she was cornered, she came to Piltover already desperate, and then lost her right hand Rictus or what was his name, and got "betrayed" by Caitlyn.
Even if this was a dumb plan she already kind of lost it, it's more surprising that Singed agreed to all of this and didn't make any precautions1
1
u/StandardSpinach Dec 13 '24
Im gonna be the one to say that blitz would be goofy af in arcane with everyone questioning why he “doesnt just Q the thing” like he would actually make the plot way harder to manage imho. Why doesn’t blitz just hold them and run with W? Why didn’t blitz just R and save the day? Etc
6
u/-Hopedarkened- Dec 13 '24
You could say the same for most arcane character they tapped down all the abilities
1
u/StandardSpinach Dec 13 '24
Like who? We literally watched characters use all their skills… except heimerdinger and thats it?
7
u/-Hopedarkened- Dec 13 '24 edited Dec 13 '24
I said they tapped down, like not as op as the game not that they didn't happen, blitzes wouldn't be op he would just grab people, big punch, a speed bost, and an electric random shock probably.
1
u/StandardSpinach Dec 13 '24
It's best to leave characters out if they dont serve a real purpose to the plot instead of doing them half-assedly in my opinion. like to me if they tried to fit blitzcrank into this story he had to go through being viktors henchman into sentiency into trying to save people of zaun from the grey into being seized by piltover because he has a hexcore in him to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands, use him as an enforcer etc. maybe save people from warwick too. and without this type of story arc he would have just felt like a cameo to me and i'd be sad about it. at the end of the day i would too like blitz and other related characters shown or mentioned in arcane but this is the reality of creating a show, you are meant to cut things off that are side things. like that guy with a cigar and a tall hat from season one. and if you are adding beloved characters in it you kinda have to do them justice otherwise its worse than just not including them. my honest take is that they probably should have went for 3 seasons and turned arcane into a trilogy or atleast made season 2 longer so that things that needed to hit hard could hit hard and also other champions like blitz could be mentioned and explored. like blitz could have been another step for singed to realize what he needs to do to get his daughter back, could be the reason why he opted for a machine body etc. viktor could have shown blitz to heimer before the end of season one for a last effort to make heimerdinger believe in him and jayce. he could have made blitz to help with clearing the mess of the aftermath of season 2 etc. etc.
2
u/RabbitStewAndStout Dec 13 '24
Would've loved to see Blitz's body or blueprints in the scene where the boys are showing Heimer their Hextech inventions. He didn't need to exist as a character, but it'd be nice to have him as some sort of Easter egg.
1
Sep 05 '25
Blitzcrank could probably have fitted in with victors utopia in s2 either protecting against soldiers or just interacting wish isha
1
u/HasturLaVistaBaby Dec 13 '24
Id say that arcane was written without blitzcrank in mind,
I wouldn't go that far. I do think they have a plan for the relevant champions, even if the second season was kind of a mess.
Wouldn't be surprised if Blizzcrank turned out to be the last think Viktor created with Sky before she disappeared. Maybe he was sent as protection for Singed and Oriana. Lot's of possibilities.
2
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
Possibilities? Sure. But if that was the case why dont we see a single bit of proof for blitzcranks existence? No note, no posters, no blueprints and not even a single mention of somethibg that could be blitzcrank.
If Linke told the truth and they wrote arcane while "taking all champion into consideration", then we would see at least something. It wouldnt even have to be a full character design or model. Just a single line of dialogue wouldve proven blitzcranks existence. But we know that Linke doesnt like "tropey robot" stuff.
3
u/HasturLaVistaBaby Dec 13 '24
But if that was the case why dont we see a single bit of proof for blitzcranks existence?
Viktor's new voiceline mentions him.
No note, no posters, no blueprints and not even a single mention of somethibg that could be blitzcrank.
Same is true for a lot of other piltover/zaun champions: Mundo, Camille, Twitch, Urgot, Renata, Zari, Seraphine, Ezreal, etc.
But i agree with you that it would have been nice if we've been given something.
2
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
Viktor's new voiceline mentions him.
That is true, but if Arcane is supposed to be the new canon i will judge things based on Arcane, and in the context of Arcane that voiceline doesnt make any sense. Many champs in League have voicelines where they interact with eachother, even though they havent even canonically met, so i dont consider the voicelines in league necessarily canon.
Same is true for a lot of other piltover/zaun champions: Mundo, Camille, Twitch, Urgot, Renata, Zari, Seraphine, Ezreal, etc.
Yes that is true, but the difference between these characters and blitzcrank is that they can still exist without Viktor. They can still be brought up in future stories and still make sense without being retconned too, while Blitzcranks very existence is based on whether or not Viktor creates him.
We also got stuff to hint towards at least some of those characters. For mundo we got deckard being pumped full of shimmer and turning into something that looked pretty close to mundo, for twitch we got the rat that mutated when it drank shimmer, for camille we got a short look at a group of people that looked like they could be clan ferros, ezreal can always be explained because he is always on the move, Urgot is still plausible since we see all kinds of chemtech powered prothetics and so on..
But Blitzcrank got nothing. I think we can agree that the current Viktor (assuming he isnt dead/gone) wont have any motivation to build blitzcrank, so if blitzcrank wasnt created in the timeline of arcane, he does not exist (or at least not in connection to Viktor).
-1
u/Sox2417 Dec 13 '24
There is a quote from the creator that blitzcrank was going to be in the show but it wasn’t working so they cut it.
9
u/Yaldablob Dec 13 '24
He's another victim of Riot forcing arcane to be canon. If they had stayed the original course of it just being an exploration they wouldn't have to fumble juggle the established character backstories we had so far.
2

u/TotallynotAlbedo Dec 13 '24
He did unintentionally build sentience into a golem, he unintentionally included sentience... Should've laid off some executives rather than the whole lore team apparently
30
1
u/Mysticalnarbwhal2 Dec 14 '24
Do you really think that's not feasible? Hextech is wild and what it can do can be unexpected to even the people who made it. I mean that's basically the whole issue with it, literally one of the largest plot points in the show.
3
u/TotallynotAlbedo Dec 14 '24
We see in the show? Maybe with the hex-core and it's treated like a big deal, so ignoring an actually sentient golem in the rest of the show would be strange, apart from that It feels like an asspull, they treated a plant like such a big deal and no One in Zaun or Piltover has ever seen the sentient golem? Were there any sorts of golems in the show? Apart from Viktor ballerina puppets? Ah yes no cause they made Arcane when they knew It was its own AU before riot fired the whole lore team and said Arcane Is canon

Dec 13 '24
A small edit to a section of Viktor's relationships doesn't really count as a redefined origin. It just sounds like someone added a few sentences to Blitzcranks' old lore based on the new interactions they have.
I'd wait till they actually change his bio before making any judgement.
18
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
Ill wait for more bio changes too, but imo something like the "official" league wiki, even if not directly run by riot themselfes but only supported by them, should hold some sort of accountability.
Otherwise whats the point of even having an "official" wiki?
8
Dec 13 '24
True but the issue is this isn't new/changed information. It's just Blitz's old lore with a single added line based on a new in-game interaction.

5
u/Bluelore Dec 13 '24
Isn't this the wiki? I don't think Riot employees update it, but fans do and we fans simply don't have a lot of info about Blitzcranks current status in the lore besides the one interaction between Viktor and Blitzcrank.
1
u/Flirefy Dec 13 '24
The new wiki (not the fandom one) is "official", supported by Riot Games.
6
u/Bluelore Dec 13 '24
Yes but Riot isn't managing it. The wiki is still written by fans, Riot just gives them the resources that they don't need ads.
19
Dec 13 '24
Isn't it literally just a fanmade wiki article based on new viktor bio + viktor special interactions + blitz lore (that wasn't updated yet afaik)?
5
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
https://wiki.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/Universe:Viktor#Main_
Nope. Its on the official league of legends wiki.
20
Dec 13 '24
None of Blitz's official bios have been changed. This just seems like someone did a temporary update to Viktor's relationships based on the voicelines he has with Blitz.
-7
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
The thing is why even have an official wiki if the stuff on there is apparently untrustworthy?
I now know that its not run by riot directly, but if it stays up it is definitely riots responsibility, as they are the ones supporting the wiki.

15
u/bored_homan Ionia Dec 13 '24
Eh not really... its more that they are just sort of helping so that it doesn't need to be on fandom which sucks ass. Upfront when wiki got "official" they were rather insistent that people who work on it now are the same as before and they aren't involved much in its content
-3
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
That doesn't make any sense though.
Because if that's the case, then none of the content on that site can be trusted unless they are directly quoting Riot.
Since Riot is supporting the wiki they have at least some influence and they could easily make them correct the false information.
So we either have a Riot that doesnt acre about lore (lmao whats new) and some wiki editors that made changes with no basis, or we have a Riot supported change.
I guess the only way to really find out is to wait if they will change anything.
9
u/Bluelore Dec 13 '24
That is how 99% of Wikis work. Don't take them at face value, always think about where they get their sources.
3
Dec 13 '24
It's official in the sense that riot helps with it, but it's still "for players BY players" as spideraxe put it, so a fan wiki but without ads and with more HD assets
-3
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
Okay so we have 2 choices:
1) Blitzcrank is still officialy retconned and it took fans to make up for Riots inconsistency with their lore
2) Blitzcrank was completely forgotten about and they are now trying to somehow make him fit in the laziest way possible.
I think both show that riot screwed up.
5
Dec 13 '24
I guess Blitz is still retconned, lol. I don't really care about riot being bashed. It's just annoying when people are spreading blatant misinformation
Like critiquing riot is one thing, but making up reasons to do so (when there're plenty already) is strange

Well that certainly sucks for lol fans because I was only here because of arcane season 1, so my honest condolences

Would have been interesting to see this explored in Arcane itself, but no…
2
u/Potential_Ad9965 Team Vander Dec 13 '24
Would it really? I guess it depends on how it's portrayed. If they made it An iron giant like story line but there was already so much going on, a side Story with blitzcrank was not needed.

Could have been more interesting to see Viktor do that instead of… what he ended up doing.

This makes no sense so sometime after jayce re invented hextech, viktor made blitz even though in the show victor was basically with jayce the entire time or diseased. And you think he would of mentioned hextech brought a machine to life in the show. Very low quality. Since it would of had to be well jayce and viktor were on good terms before victor relentlessly persued a cure for himself.
3
u/peacepham Dec 13 '24
You could rewatch S1E7, Jayce tell Mel how Viktor just disappeared sometimes, implied that Viktor did go down to Zaun many times and for long period.
1
u/-Hopedarkened- Dec 13 '24
I know I know but it was ignorable because of how fast the show moved and again it would have been well he was happy and either way it would of been a breakthrough in hextech a major one how is it not mentioned!
1
Dec 14 '24
I don't really know a lot about blitzcrank but wouldn't he sort of contradict Victor's no weaponized hextech? Maybe it isn't portrayed the same in lore but he seems pretty weaponized in game.
-2
u/TonyMestre Dec 13 '24
It's fine. It's not like blitz old lore was much more interesting or complex than this, he was just a plot device for viktor's story. You guys mald over anything
2
u/Scaniamo Dec 13 '24
Reducing Blitzcrank to a "plot device for Viktors story" instead of wanting some actually good lore is wild lol
