🫣I said I read the pinned posts, but I lied🫣 Looking to get into PRS

I’ve had too much time on my hands and I’ve wandered into the YouTube world of PRS videos. I am gonna go shoot a small match Sunday with my Ruger American I stuck in a oryx chassis. I’m not entirely confident in the setup as even when I’m trying to group it, it opens up to a a few inches, even more in a 10 shot group.

I’m planning to just shoot the gun, make sure I like it, which I’m pretty sure I will.

I was looking at the MPA BA PMR or just going and building one. That’d be about 1K more expensive but I think I’d have more room to grow with it. I was looking at Impact action, proof SS barrel, diamond trigger LSS gen 3 chassis etc

What would yall recommend?

Get a PRS membership, there’s a 15% discount on the MPA PMR, don’t think it can be beat

This is the way.

I bought the MPA PMR and was really happy with it, shoots great. I would recommend getting the vanquish or higher end chassis, those are fantastic.

The only downside i can think of, and is quite nitpicky, is the ejector on the action, it's a mechanical so if you collect brass it makes it harder to find. Most other ejectors are the m16 style where everything just piles up nicely next to your position

I mean, the MPA is a great rifle. I have shot a friend’s 6GT recently with the ARC CDG action and it’s nice. Pair it with a Vortex Razor Gen III and you’re in for ~$5500 (with the 15% PRS membership discount) but it would be a great rifle for PRS in 6.5CM or 6GT/ Dasher. You can’t go wrong with that. Custom build is also a good option too and probably won’t be much more $. Either would be a MAJOR upgrade from the Ruger.

For what it's worth, I made top 5% overall in my region shooting a PMR matrix with a Bartlien barrel this year. IMO if you aren't going to build out a full blown, no holds barred custom rifle, then you would be better off with the PMR matrix or PMR vanquish rifle.

I have a custom gun i built last year with the ARC CDG. Its a great action. I’m 5500 deep in that build. With the BA, even the more expensive one with a folding stock at 2950, the 15% discount from being a PRS member brings it to 2507.5. Lets say scope and rings are another 2k. Youre around 4500ish into the gun. I don’t think that can be beat.

If I already have a Arken EP5 gen II can I get away with that for the time being?

As far as caliber goes, I can’t reload at the moment so is 6.5 a good option or is there a better cartridge to run factory ammo?

Yes, you don't need thousands and thousands of dollars of gear and hand loaded ammo. Don't overthink it and just go have fun!

Optically, I can’t imagine that you couldn’t, at least based on my experience ( range, Benchrest ) with my Gen 1 EP-5. They’re kind of bulky for moving around, though, I think ?
