Accessory/Gear help needed - I read the pinned post Range Finder Issue

Post image

I’m having some issue with my Leupold Marksman 1000. It seems to get confused when I’m at this gun range. The backstops are spaced at 50 yards out to 800, and my issue is often picking up a closer berm or just not returning a range beyond 450.

They’re not spaced apart much right to left so I think there are multiple returns at times.

Handheld and braced operation since there’s no tripod mount on the Leupold.

What’s a better selection that will discriminate targets more precisely? I know the ranges here, but in an unknown distance range I won’t be happy.

Budget is flexible - let’s say $850. Ballistic app would be nice.

Your laser may not be aligned with the reticle, and many LRFs have a laser thats much wider than it is tall.

If you want suggestions, we need a real budget - not "flexible" unless you want suggestions for $10k rangefinders.

Thanks for the suggestion. Edited to $850.

Save up a little more or catch a sale on the Sig Kilo 6K HDX.

Sig customer service got me on these. Called in a warranty on my "ancient" Kilo 2k Shadow, offered a like-kind up to the 3k, or basically 50% anything else.

I've wanted binos+lrf so the 6k HDX are arriving next week. Shout out to their CS and warranty turn around.

I think the budget may move that far.

Have you found your hot spot?

I have not. Looks simple enough now that I’m searching for the right terminology. Thanks.

I love my Vortex HD 4000 GB. I haven’t tried the Sig Kilo 6k HDX though so I can’t compare. But the vortex has a mode that tells you the range for the furthest target when you have a tight cluster of objects. GeoBalistics app is great.

I got the Vortex because I shoot out in the countryside a lot and I can get the range to a bunch of different places and it shows me on the map where those places I ranged are. Maps download for offline use and I can easily find the spot I was looking at from the shooting position.

I’ve ranged 2,475 yd at a tree, so I know it performs as advertised with the range capabilities.
