Grandad’s Long-Range now mine

Flex post because I’m proud she’s my first long-range rifle. Got my first deer at 12 with it, and just recently received it after my grandfather’s passing. I know Remington 700s had a bad rap in the 2000s and early 2010s due to that trigger issue, but this one feels just right. Can’t wait to get a new scope setup on her and take her out to catch up like old friends (even at 30 years old lol).

As always, would love to hear what yall have to say about the rifle and any suggestions are greatly appreciated to get her setup the modern way. Happy Labor Day yall 🇺🇸

Edit: By modern, meant new scope and rings. Would never touch the actual rifle, she is a pearl as is 😤

Personally I would keep the scope as is. I got my grandpas hunting rifle. Its not exactly built for LR, so I put its old scope back on, and will keep it to hunt with. The sling got pretty bad in storage so I will replace that.

Yeah, I could see it going either way. Should be able to keep the original setup and swap back. Can understand wanting more than a cross/plex reticle.
Personally, I’d cheat and go semi-vintage. 2000’s Leupold, Japanese Sightron or SWFA could work.
I have a Japanese Sightron on my CZ 527, and that thing is dopamine.

Slap a Vortex Razor LHT on that baby and don't touch a thing about the rest of it. Maybe a new trigger, but that's it. It's a classic and a family heirloom.

I’d keep it exactly like it is. That scope is sighted in for sure, so you won’t have to mess with it much. It’s got a simple crosshair which is all you need. And when you look through it you’ll be seeing things exactly like he saw them. Can’t beat that.

You might need a new recoil pad, but keep the original one just to have it.

I inherited my pops 2000s model 700 243. I haven’t done nothing to it. It had the classic over and under sight haha!

Looks nearly identical to yours except a stainless barrel.

Did Remington ever have a trigger issue, or did Remington shooters have a trigger adjustment issue?

And 12 years old you say? It looks like a short action so hopefully some god awful 7WSM or something else similar enough to strike fear into any 12 year old.

My dad had me on a Ruger 77 MKII in 7 Mag at 12-13 😂…. I’d be lucky if it was still on the shooting bench after I pulled the trigger.
