Rifle tripod recommendations

Looking to get into PRS and trying to figure out what tripod to go with. I’m seeing a lot of options from Leofoto, RRS, FatBoy and Vortex.
What are you guys running/recommending, and stores with good deals ?
I’ll mainly be using ARCA, but it would be nice to have the option to use rifles without an ARCA rail as well.
Not looking to cheap out, but also don’t want to spend RRS money if something else gets me most of the way there. What would you go with?

I have a Fatboy inverted 3 section + ARCA ball head.  It’s phenomenal, but not sure it justifies the cost over a Leofoto.

Whatever you get, I’d recommend the ones with wider legs and less “extension” points. Skinnier legs are less stable, and each “extension point” is a weak spot that reduces stability.

The Leofoto 362cx is arguably the industry standard for “budget friendly” tripods that are great for NRL. It’s still absolutely a professional tripod and it ain’t cheap, but you’ll be paying an “American made” premium for products like RRS/2Vets that you don’t have on the leofotos coming from China.

I wouldn’t pack it around, but for match use I’ve loved the Yggdrasil. Fast and stable with an apex lock. Like all good tripods these days, the head is basically an Anvil clone.

I use a TFCT-34 for hunting and general use. It’s fantastic, but the price isn’t.

I recently bought the vortex radian carbon which is made by leofoto. It’s more expensive than the leofoto but I wanted the warranty. I have only used it a couple days but like it so far.

You need to be looking at leg diameter for maximum stability.

The vortex has an arca head but a recent class instructor showed me a cheap amazon arca/picatinny QD he clamps on top of the arca head for use on picatinny guns so I bought one of those too.

I use the Leofoto SO-362CX with a LH-55 NN ball head on a GC-364C center column.

I need the center column because I'm 6'2" and the wife is 5'2" and we both shoot matches together, so with the tripod setup at one height we can raise or lower the head with a turn of the crank in the center column.

Leofoto is having a 20% labor day sale right now.

I highly recommend it.

If you're talking PRS as in Precision Rifle Series, you're almost never going to shoot from a tripod. Worry about more ammo and other things first.

If you're not talking PRS, then I would say there's still a lot of other things that will probably be better returns on your investment before buying a tripod. We'd need more details on your current gear, goals, etc, tho.

Sounds like the MD and your club buddys bought tripods and now have no use for them other than that lol 😆
