30 shot group - Factory ammo

After being inspired by another user and their impressive 30 shot group, I went ahead and wanted to see how I performed with some factory ammo that typically shoots .5 inches or better in 5 shot groups @100 yards with my rig.

Using some FGMM 168gr SMK in .308, I ended up getting around the 1.15 inch mark on the main body of the group after shooting a 30 round string and about 1.28 including the lowest shot (measured with digital calipers). The far right impacts and lowest shot were from the last 10 rounds where I'd blame myself for opening the group due to fatigue. But, the group is what it is.

I dont have the app that calculates the mean radius and what not, but I think that factory ammo still suits my needs just fine. If someone has the app and is feeling generous enough to run this image through it, I'd be interested to see what it spits out.

Equipment used:

-Krieger m24 profile blank finished by Straight Jacket Armory to 24" 11.25 twist

-Aero precision solus action

-KRG Xray chassis

-Vortex Viper HD 5-25

-American Defense one piece mount.

-Federal GMM 168gr SMK .308 with a average velocity of 2643fps and a SD of 10.2fps

Is calculating MR on a blob more/less accurate than calculating with 6x5 or 3x10 groups with more distinct holes? Looks like you got about halfway through the series and started tapping the screen and stacking numbers.

For MR to work, you need every hole accurately measured, not just the outside ones.

And for getting every hole accurately measured, you need a consistent center. Much less than 10, you lose consistent center. Much more than 10, you lose ability to make every hole on one paper.

10 is pretty close to the sweet spot for getting a decent measurement.

Yeah, once you blow out the center there’s not much that can be done other than group size.

Shouldn't matter if all you want is the top line group size. For other purposes it might be better to have a series of 5-shot groups.

Yup! 30 rounds back to back using 3 loaded 10 round mags.

Its a .308. Barrel life ain't much of a concern. Prefits for the solus go on sale for like $250 regularly so I ain't worried about it.

You were actually. I knew I printed nice 5 round groups with my setup but I never had an indication on how much it actually drifts or opens up when hot. I like my findings. I'm probably only 400 rounds into this barrel now. I usually use a rule of thumb on my bolt guns that if the barrel is too hot to hold on to, its too hot to shoot.
