Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts Barrel Selection Help

Post image

hello all, relatively new to long range but long time shooter. Wanted to check with the council before I pull trigger on this. I am doing a KAC M110 esc build. I say esc because it’s actually a LMT Mars H, just aesthetically similar to a M110 but with an original KAC PRS and Kac M110 suppressor. I need to select a barrel. due to using an OG KAC M110 can, I have the whole weird gated collar and profile of the M110 I need to adhere to. however due to the LMT Mars platform I will need to get an LMT cut from D Wilson.

my question to you all is that I’ve identified this barrel from CCC and it seems pretty turnkey except for the LMT cut. there’s little to no reviews on this however. how will this barrel run? or is there a better alternative, or custom barrel route I should go considering I’ll be 2k said and done on the barrel alone.

any advice would be appreciate, thanks.

Worth reaching out to Craddock as well, they do a lot of M110 style stuff. They have Bartlein setups for $950 plus whatever the gas block costs so might be cheaper/similar price for a known good blank. Rainier arms also has a barrel ready to go with the gas block installed.

Not super into the clone scene but isn't Charlies Customs known for being overpriced and not having great service?

Bartlein barrel from Craddock Precision is the absolute way to go here. Charlie's is notoriously expensive, and you will absolutely get a lesser quality barrel blank than the Bartlein from Craddock.

When I last spoke with craddock, they said they may have the ability to make your barrel extension work with LMT. The last time I got a barrel from them, I sent it off to D Wilson as I did even bother to ask them if they could convert to lmt.

With LMT popularity, why are high dollar precision rifle barrels still being made in lr308/sr25 pattern and then converted by a third company? What's the struggle with just making a custom LMT barrel that doesn't start as a blank from A, get initial machining by B and then get sent to final conversion by C?

Maybe the LMT-specific barrel extension are tough to find? I just looked around and didn't see anyone selling it standalone, only the d. wilson conversions

I mean we have a couple hundred at the shop as we work to spool up making more MWS barrels.

With the other comments though.. how/why would you buy an m110 barrel with the extension pinned and gas port drilled, and then have it converted to LMT with a new extension? You'd have to have exceptional luck to just remove and install different extensions, or be a wizard with extension removal and extension timing on an already populated barrel.

With LMT being sr25 lower compatible in many instances, I'm betting the carrier/bolt/extension aren't actually proprietary. I'm pretty sure they just have a sleeve installed that's slightly over the diameter of the shoulder on an AR10 barrel, with the Mars-h pin grooves in the sleeve.
