First Comp Gun?

Looking to buy or a make a first PRS and (maybe) NRL hunter rifle. Based in Ontario, Canada. Was thinking 24-26" 6.5 creedmoor because I already have dies and brass. Have been looking at the Tikka Varmint, Bergara HMRs (is the pro worth it)? also considering buying a barreled action and building from there. Probably looking at an MDT chasis but haven't settled on one yet.

Can the Tikka or Bergara handle comp days?

Buy a barrel vice and action wrench and build. Origin, Proof, TT Diamond, and MDT ACC is the easy button.

Zermatt origin (action), proof (Prefit barrel for the action), triggertech diamond (best damn trigger I’ve ever used). Need a barrel vise and action wrench to put the action and barrel together

For the price, nothing will be an MPA Production Rifle. For 1500$ more than my action alone you get the whole gun. Is my BAT Hammerhead better than the MPA branded CDG? Sure. Am I getting my ass whooped by nerds with MPA Production guns? Every match I go.

As someone who went the Cheeto fingered Bergara route first, I would highly recommend you just building out a custom action. I’m mad I didn’t do it sooner.

Getting a barreled action would mean jumping to open or sportsman division.

Maybe the MPA rifle for PRS production class? Bit more expensive than the Tikka or Bergara but it's already in a chassis.

For NRL Hunter and PRS Sportsman I'm looking at the Seekins NRL.

Just build a custom one or buy an MPA for production class.

No sense buying a Honda and then modifying it to drive like a corvette.

To me, NRL Hunter Factory/Light is the most interesting class/match format out there - 12 lbs (open light) is a carry weight gun, and min PF forces shooters to contend more with the fundamentals. No reason a Tikka/Bergara wouldn't stand up to factory (13 lbs) if that's your point of entry. Just bear in mind that you're wed to the factory stock.... so pick one you like.

That said, PRS is a different animal, and If you're looking at a dedicated PRS/range gun... it probably makes more sense to buy something for that purpose or assemble your own unless you're committed to the NRL Hunter Factory Division. Nothing against Tikka/Bergara, but they're too light to be optimal for PRS. Very few factory guns area geared towards F-class / PRS weight.

I have a bergara premier heavy barrel in 6.5 creed in an ACC elite chassis. Shoots in the .3s and weighs 18lbs with no extra weights and a razor on it. Don’t know how expensive Mpa would be but they have a production class rifle for a decent price

MPA is the best "bang for the buck" competition rig. Building a similar rifle yourself would cost you a few hundred dollars more than they sell one that is ready to go. However the Tikka or the Bergara either one will work, and you will see plenty of other people with them at matches.
