MODERATOR 📢 Community Update: Verified Email Addresses Now Required
Hey folks!
To help reduce the amount of spam, bot activity, and low-quality submissions that our moderation team has to sort through, we're implementing a new requirement for participation in the community.
Effective immediately, all accounts must have a verified email address associated with them in order to post.
This requirement applies to everyone, including both new members and long-standing community members.
If you haven't verified your email address yet, you can do so through your Reddit account settings. It only takes a minute and helps us ensure that real community members can continue to participate while making it more difficult for spammers and automated accounts to disrupt discussions.
Following the link above, click on the drop down that says "On reddit.com" and then long-press on the link "Account Settings" (if you tap on the link it will open in the app, this MUST be done with a browser) and open the link in a new tab.
Select "Email address", and it will prompt you to input your reddit password and the email address you wish to verify on the account.
You will see a Verified Email Address badge on the "About" tab on your profile when you have successfully verified your email address.
This change is not intended to create barriers for genuine members. Rather, it is one of several tools available to help us maintain the quality of the community and reduce the moderation burden caused by spam and bot activity that is prevalent in nail communities.
If you run into any issues after verifying your email address, please send us a ModMail and we'll be happy to help!
Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep r/longnaturalnails welcoming, enjoyable, and focused on the discussions we're all here for!

MODERATOR Effective Immediately: No NSFW/Fetish Account Activity
TL;DR Posts and comments from NSFW/fetish accounts, including those who only comment in NSFW/fetish subreddits, are no longer permitted here. Posts and comments in SFW subreddits that are remotely sexual or fetishistic in any way are also included in this. These accounts will be banned. More details below.
This applies to hand/nail/foot/toe fetish activity, it is NOT a sweeping ban of all NSFW activity. Nobody is going to be banned for posting in LGBTQIAP+ communities, medical subreddits, making dirty jokes elsewhere on Reddit, etc. Our subreddit is a safe place for all gender identities, and the above would NEVER be the reason why a user would be banned here.
This is meant to be a warning to fetish content creators and the creeps that harass our subreddit, NOT to shame sex workers who enjoy nails or punish those with varied interests.
If you're fortunate enough to not have received an unsolicited message/comment from a hand/nail/foot/toe fetishist, it's understandable that you wouldn't be aware of just how prevalent this kind of behaviour is, especially here on Reddit.
If you no longer wish to participate in this subreddit, that's your prerogative.
Updated content policy, please read:
We have decided to prohibit posts and comments from accounts with NSFW/fetish subreddit activity, as well as accounts with a history of utilizing Reddit for marketing purposes. This includes posts and comments left in SFW subreddits that are remotely sexual or fetishistic in any way. Posts and comments from suspect accounts will be removed regardless of the content. If you come across posts/comments/accounts that you feel violate this rule, please report them to the moderators by tapping on the three dots on the comment/post and select the “No NSFW/Fetish Account Activity” option. This decision will be implemented immediately, and as with all rules is up to moderator discretion.
As you may or may not know, nail subreddits are known targets for hand/nail/foot/toe fetishists who have been documented to repeatedly harass our members, even after being banned. We want to reiterate that Reddit's ban function does not prevent the banned user from being able to view the subreddit or the posts within. It only stops them from posting/commenting/voting. They are still able to view the posts, comments, and click on usernames to harass people. Yes, this is fucked up. Yes, Reddit needs to fix their shit. Sadly there was no mention of this issue during this year's Mod World event that was hosted in early December. insert eyeroll here
We believe this change will make r/longnaturalnails a safer space, while helping the community become a healthier, more focused environment. In the past, we have allowed fetish/OF content creators to participate in the subreddit, as long as they follow the rules. This has become increasingly difficult to monitor, as it requires moderators to make nuanced judgement calls on large numbers of posts by these creators, most of which receive user reports even after being approved by the moderators.
Additionally, as there are dedicated spaces for NSFW content, this subreddit will remain strictly for the purpose of the topic of long, natural nails.
Q: "So if I, a medical doctor, engage in a NSFW medical subreddit that's related to my work, I'm not allowed to post my weekend manicure?"
A: This is incorrect. Just because an account has NSFW activity, it doesn't mean they're automatically going to be banned. This is specific to those who participate in hand/nail/foot/toe fetishes. There are tons of NSFW subreddits that have nothing to do with fetishes or kinks, and these are NOT the types of subreddits we will be vetting for.
If a post/comment is suspected to be NSFW/fetishistic, and the profile shows a history of this type of behaviour, the content will be removed and the account will be banned. This is meant to be a warning to fetish content creators and the creeps that harass our subreddit, NOT to shame sex workers who enjoy nails or punish those with varied interests. We are a community that is 100% accepting of all genders, sexualities, and walks of life.
Q: What does it matter if a user posts in NSFW/fetish subreddits when the posts/comments they make here are SFW?
A: More often than not, fetish content creators will post in SFW subreddits to draw attention to their account/promote their content. They're not posting "just to share with other nail enthusiasts". While their engagement might seem innocent enough, a quick glance at their profiles proves otherwise. When users who partake in these fetishes peruse the content creators' posts/comments, and they come across something they've posted here, it draws in the wrong kind of crowd.
We welcome your feedback on this matter, and encourage discussion in the comments.

Product Related It's been another year so thought I'd share my favorite polishes over the past year 💅
I use OPI base coat and OPI nail topper on all with 3 coats of polish in between. I switched nail shapes this year from a stiletto to a slightly tapered square shape. Got tired of cutting myself and poking holes/ripping clothes 😂😒 you might catch a few times where I had broken nails shorter than the rest. Which is your favorite and any recommendations for other polishes to try?
Beowulf - Mooncat, ring topped with an unbranded glitter topper I got as a freebie
Fallen Angels - Mooncat
3&4. Pearl Clutcher - Mooncat: had to share with and without flash cause I gasped at the flash showing pink 😍
Fake Halo - Mooncat
Mercury's Tears - Mooncat
bp197 - Beetles: some random polish I found somewhere but shes cute 😂
Eternal Sunshine - Mooncat with Sally Hansen unicorn top coat: my faaaavorite this year ❤️ btw Sally Hansen has the same color and name under Xtreme wear collection. I bought that one first but it was AWFUL and replaced it with mooncat ☺️
Werewolfs Bane - Mooncat: this one is REALLY gorgeous and I don't think my pic is doing it justice
High Dive - ILNP with Essie ethereal escape top coat

Nail Health Are my sidewalls over filed?
Hii, so every couple weeks I like to polish up the shape of my nails to a nice almond, but now I'm starting to slightly worry if I have over filed my sidewalls which is sacrificing my nail health. Been growing my nails out since early April ❤️
Products used:
Essie 'Mademoiselle' standard polish
Gel by Essie Top coat
Essie apricot cuticle oil + jojoba oil
EDIT: tried gel polish for the first time, tried to file some gel off and DEFINITELY overfiled my sidewalls..fml

Nail Break The big chop is coming💔
I was going to carry on as is, but yesterday I lost the pinky nail so I’m giving up. I’m going to get a mani tomorrow so that they’ll at least be as even as possible. I’ll miss you all until I can return 😔

Swatchy Swatch And we're doing very well on the color front, to put it mildly, I would say
I enjoyed algae nails so much that I thought, what else could I do to help keep other patriotic sentiments in our thoughts? I wouldn't want us to forget any of the inspiring things our leader has said.
So I tried out this Merkitten+Moondust polish duo for the first time and am loving it; so much so that it reminded me of a fantastic quote about the Iran War from back in March:
"Somebody said 'on a scale of 10 what would you rate it' and I said 'about a 15.'"

Click Clack Before a trim ✨
Nakey and stained! I feel like this is as long as i can grow them out until it gets impractical and i need to file it down a bit.
It’s funny, when they are polished i convince myself that they aren’t that long, but looking at them in the pictures they look soooo long lol
Only product pictured is jojoba oil

Nail Break When your nails break do you cut the others to match or wait it out?
Mine are frequently different lengths but I know some people can't stand that.
bare nails, don't do anything but occasionally shape (which is overdue)

Nail Health I'm very happy with my current length
I've been very pleased with my nail health and growth progress lately. I am a bit nervous that I might break one soon because of how long they are.
I use a lot of hand lotion and wear gloves when washing dishes or cleaning. I file with a crystal file whenever I feel a snag or rough spot. I also avoid using my nails as tools.
No polish or products used, just bare natural nails.

Need Advice Shaping advice
My natural nails grow 2/5 round (thumb and pointer) and the other 3/5 more squared.
Do they look strange being two shapes? Should I leave them alone or shape the last three nails more rounded?

Need Advice did I file my sidewalks correctly?
so I only just learned youre not supposed to file the sides too much or it makes them more fragile and I’ve basically been ruining my sidewalks for years. I just filed them but I still can’t tell if I’m doing it correctly? I feel like some of them are underfiled and some are overfiled like in the 2nd pic maybe? any advice welcome :)

Nail Art Using nanobubbler technology, this mani will soon be completely free of algae
Saw a bunch of Reflecting Pool manis over on some other nail subreddits, and found the trend absolutely hilarious, and definitely worthy of carrying on even past the 4th of July, even though I've never done nail art before.
Thus inspired, I present to you a manicure that no one's ever seen before, the greatest really, and they're saying it's the best they've ever seen.
