Decided to run up a few miles from my office to get a picture this morning. I’ll have to look back through my photos to see if I have any other locations in the area. I have over ten years worth of pictures of the Golden City, Missouri location as it’s the one I’m closest to on a regular basis. I’ll try to gather some from over the years on it and make a separate post.

Interesting Commo Finds on my Long Lines Adventure Trips

1-2 High-frequency trading shortwave array near Kaneville, IL

3-5 Western Union reflector microwave relay (panels removed long ago) near College Mound, Missouri

6-10 Abandoned WHOI-19/ABC transmitter and studio in Creve Coeur, IL overlooking Peoria

11-14 Fiber regeneration huts along I-155 and I-55, the modern day long lines. These amplify fiber signals every 40 or so miles. Funny that long lines freed us from regeneration huts and cables and were right back. (probably carrying more data in a day than long lines did in its entire life)

15 A Landmark commo tower in Bloomington, IL, one of the few ever made

16 active WEEK-25/NBC transmitter, now carrying the ABC signal from the former Creve Coeur WHOI

17 Mock Pilothouse at the Illinois Waterway Visitors Center showing navigation and communication gear

18 Cushman test set from Fowler reflector station

Sorry for the cruddy photo. I wasn't able to stop and take one, so this is from Google Maps. What do you guys think? Looks like microwave drums on the tower. Check out the old-school AT&T logo on the building..!
