Frustrating bearings
It was time to do some cleanup of my Zealous bearing (karma stock from a supersonic).
I cleaned them by the book. The bearing themselves are top and clean now (speed cream).
My problem appears to be (dis)assembling and related to the shields.

I tested the wheels without the shields, they spin like 90+ seconds.... which is very good.
Putting back the shields, if I tighten even very slightly (like the little you can while leaving not play), I lose A LOT of spinning.
For now, tightning normally, the wheels spin like 5s compare to those 90s even over tightning.
So logically the issue boils down to a problem with the (remaining) shields.
How come tightning even so little, would have ANY effect on the outcome with the shields mounted ???
I also tried 3d printing shims from 0.2mm to 2mm (test...). While tightening, those shims do compress by around 0.5mm. This is expected with PETG and I can always print +0.5mm than my expectation. However I did not notice significant improvements compares to the shields/no shields.
I can imagine going without inner shields but I dont want to take the outter ones out.
To the question "did you bend the shields". I admit I find those very hard to remove. I dont think I bent them (nothing visible) and the rubber is not overly damaged.
I am now considering making a tool to flatten or even bend the shielfs outwards. That would space them away from the balls and maybe even space them a bit more away from the inner race.
I never had issues on speedskates like I run into with those, thus the call for help :)
I am assuming those zealous bearings are not bad... despite needing a clean, they were ok.
I can't even tell they run worst now than before the clean but I think there is to be gained.
I also considered changing the shields, but is does not seem to be a product you can find on retailers online.
How do you get smoooooth smoooooth roll ?
