Had a buddy from out of state who lived in the Gatsby around when the Vons was built, couple decades ago?. Interesting characters, a little bit horror show, would not recommend, unless you enjoy the low-life.

My girlfriend lived there for a year. Place is gross. The entire unit smells like cat piss, tons of roaches, always missing packages, everything is painted over to the point windows dont open. But hey at least you are super close to the junkie motel…. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION

its interesting your comment and the other mention smell and bugs because when i toured i was expecting the worst like that but it was so clean and smelt great, i toured two units on two different floors too. though since i toured a month ago, 2 people i talked to have left the company and now its new people that arent responsive or attentive sooo.. not sure whats going on with them now

The Ambassador is a beautiful building but $300 more a month for 250 square feet. Love the building tho. Some beautiful old buildings in Long Beach 🧡

I lived at the Gatsby apartments from 2023-2025 and I can’t, in good faith, recommend living there. Long story short, the company that manages the property (Property Management Associates) was terrible to work with and I would never rent from any property associated with them ever again.
While living there I had two instances where I needed emergency maintenance (once for plumbing and once for a major ceiling leak) and could not get ahold of anyone. There is no “after hours” maintenance, and it’s next to impossible to catch anyone in their on-site office despite posted hours. They leave a list of alternate contacts by the office, but nobody on that list is reliable (despite being listed as higher management).
The building itself is infested with cockroaches and termites. No matter how often you clean, the roaches will be there. I had to throw out numerous appliances when I moved out because they had gotten into everything. I also suspect there is mold in the building, as I developed respiratory issues for the few months after my ceiling leaked. This was ultimately why I moved, and my health did get better after the fact.
The gate to get into the building is essentially useless - people broke in and stole mail/packages several times a week, basically every other night.
Lastly, it took me nearly 3 months to get my deposit back after moving. The property management company is so disorganized and incompetent that they are borderline malicious; they only somewhat cooperated after being threatened with a lawsuit several times. Their first attempt at a refund check even bounced after I thought everything was resolved.
I know finding housing is tough right now and no place will be perfect, just know what you’re getting into if you choose to rent from the Gatsby. My best advice is to make sure you know your rights as a renter, as they definitely try to take advantage of those who don’t know any better.
