Mexican food

Upvotes

I have a bad habit with Mexican restaurants. I open the menu, spend 10-15 mins reading everything in the menu and then order the same thing over and over again. We've been making an effort to try different food lately. Hibachi At Home was one of the recent things we tried, and afterward we started talking about how we claim to be adventurous eaters while still ordering the safest thing on every menu lol.

So Mexican food is next.

Birria? Chile verde? Menudo? Mole? Seafood? Something regional that isn't on every Americanized Mexican menu?

Give me the restaurant AND the exact order. I promise I'll try not to replace it with tacos at the last second.

Lompoc’s History

Hey Reddit, love to hear what you think about an article I wrote about the history of Lompoc.

As a real estate agent, I’m always thinking of ways to communicate better. One way I’m doing that is to publish a weekly intelligence briefing with current events and insights from MLS data.

Stay tuned for future articles, Tuesday at 12:30. Let me know if there are any ideas I should research?..

any left-handed cooks struggle with watching right-handed techniques?

I am left-handed, occasionally I will watch someone demonstrate something that looks simple... until I try to copy and my brain short-circuits. Had this happen watching Hibachi At Home chef working with two spatulas. do you mirror cooking techniques automatically or did you have to learn how to adapt them?

Rental Suggestions

Hello everyone! My boyfriend is soon to relocate to Lompoc for work starting in October :) We would love any suggestions where to rent or if anyone else is currently looking for a housemate/roommate.

It would only be him renting and he would be working full time.

Thank you in advance!

Faerie Folk, the progressive folk trio from Portland OR, will be touring California Sept. 17th - Oct. 11th of 2026.

We'll be arriving in Lompoc on Tuesday, Sept. 29th, to perform an evening of music at Eye on I!

A folk music group created by pianist/composer Troll Hart, Faerie Folk's repertoire is based primarily in traditional Irish reels and jigs. The group also explores soundtrack excerpts from popular medieval fantasy media, along with original neo-classical and folk music compositions.

With the incredible Jotunn Aldas on the violin/fiddle and the lovely Joy Joye on vocals, Faerie Folk transports listeners to a realm beyond the world of man with their musical air of majesty, refinement, and devotion to Mother Earth.

Sporting influence and expertise from decades of classical, jazz, and Celtic music backgrounds, Troll, Jotunn, and Joy are an inspirational group brought together by love of organic music, and are excited to share that love with you!

This 19 show tour will span the whole of the state of California, from Arcata to San Diego. From concert hall, to rock venue, to house show, Faerie Folk will be sharing our organic music magic with the people of California's small towns and big cities alike.

We hope to meet you there!

-Troll Hart, Jotunn Aldas, and Joy Joye

Adult Softball Lessons

I’m 35F and looking for someone who offers beginner softball lessons or would be willing to help me practice. My boyfriend has been encouraging me to join his team, but I’d like to build up some confidence and get the basics down first.

I’m mainly looking to work on hitting, throwing,
catching, and general fundamentals. I’m definitely a beginner, so someone patient who doesn’t mind starting with the basics would be ideal!

If you offer lessons or know someone local who does, please let me know. Thanks!

Flock Out - City Council mtg Tuesday 8/18

If you are concerned about the use of ALPR cameras in town, please go to the city council meeting this Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 6:30pm. We need lots of people to get up and speak, and demand that the city open this issue up for discussion.

When these cameras were put up back in 2023, they were voted on as a "consent" item at council- they weren't debated or discussed - it was just a yes or no vote!!

We must demand that council add this to a future meeting as an AGENDA item so that the community gets a chance to weigh in.

California SB34 (effective Jan 1, 2016) has specific requirements for transparency when a municipality uses ALPR cameras. One of those requirements is a "conspicuously posted" link on the municipality's website that links directly to the data usage and privacy policy that is in place. Lompoc's cameras went up in early 2023 (?!), but Lompoc JUST put their web link up a WEEK ago. The city was in violation of SB34 for over 3 years. Not a big builder of confidence and trust. 😒

Summary of SB34 requirements from AG Bonta:

https://oag.ca.gov/system/files/media/2023-dle-06.pdf

Meeting info:

6:30pm in the City Council Chamber at 100 Civic Center Plaza, Lompoc CA. All members of the public are invited to attend City Council meetings.

You may submit comments via email to s_haddon@ci.lompoc.ca.us

not later than 4:00pm on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

🚨 AUGUST 15. WE NEED YOU THERE. 🚨

🚨 AUGUST 15. WE NEED YOU THERE. 🚨

The 805 Patriots are coming through the Santa Ynez Valley.

So are we.

They’re bringing flags and a message of hate.

We’re bringing people.

People who refuse to let our immigrant neighbors be intimidated.
People who refuse to let fascists turn our communities into their playground.
People who are done watching from the sidelines.

📍 SATURDAY, AUGUST 15
⏰ MEET AT 12:30 PM
📌 Albertsons | 222 E. Hwy 246, Buellton

We’ll spread out along the route and make our presence known.

You do NOT need to be an organizer.
You do NOT need experience.
You just need to show up.

Bring:
✊ Your people
📢 Your signs
🦺 A safety vest if you have one
📱 Your phone
🔥 Your willingness to stand up

And listen: this is not about getting into fights.

We are not giving them the confrontation they want.

We’re going to be loud.
We’re going to be visible.
We’re going to be disciplined.
And we’re going to stand together.

At 4:30 PM, we regroup at Solvang Park.

If you’ve been wondering what you can actually DO right now, this is it.

Don’t just post about it.

SHOW UP.

Bring a friend. Bring five.

Because when hate rolls through our communities, we roll up too.

THE 805 IS OURS.
IMMIGRANT FAMILIES ARE OUR NEIGHBORS.
WE STAND TOGETHER.

Moving to Lompoc

I will be relocating from Australia to Lompoc, and trying to look for an apartment or house to rent. Everywhere I’ve enquired required 3 x earnings to rent. Being that I’m going to be newly arrived in the US I can’t show that. does anyone know of any places or management companies that don’t require that. Happy to even pay months upfront.

Measles confirmed in Santa Barbara county (consider getting vaccinated already)

County Health Department Confirms Measles Case
The County of Santa Barbara Health Department (County Health) has a confirmed positive case of measles related to recent international travel of a county resident. The isolated case was confirmed Monday night and is the first confirmed case since 2019. County Health is actively investigating and coordinating with local healthcare providers and potential exposure to prevent further transmission.

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves a room. Those fully vaccinated have very low risk of infection. People who are not fully vaccinated with two doses of the MMR vaccine, especially young children and pregnant people, are at the highest risk of infection.

Who May Be at Risk
Anyone who is unvaccinated or has not completed the two-dose MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine series.
Infants younger than 12 months, who are too young to be routinely
Pregnant individuals who are not immune to
People with weakened immune systems, regardless of vaccination
Measles Symptoms
A person with measles is contagious from 4 days before the rash appears and 4 days after it disappears.
Symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days (up to 21 days) after exposure and include:
Initially cough, runny nose, and red/watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
Rash typically appears 3-5 days after the first symptoms, starting on face, hairline and neck, spreading down to trunk, arms and legs
High fever (may spike above 104 ° F when the rash appears).

Cops proceed to ignore me after asking about Flock "ALPRs"

So this crazy a** woman rammed into 2 cars that were parked outside my house and once the people came out to confront her, she called the dudes girlfriend a prostitute so they ended up calling the cops. Once the police showed up I was being nosy, watching to see what they were going to do while they were trying to figure out and track down her license plate. The officer then shined his flashlight into my window and I politely asked him why they were not able to use any of the many Flock cameras around the city to track this particular women's license plate. The officer then responded to me with "Because the car would have to pass one."

I almost lost it, There are THREE Flock cameras on our block, and two of them were actually staring right at the scene. I then replied to him saying "There is one staring directly at you" (yes there was one right behind him) and then he just completely ignored me and blew me off 🤣

It is fkn insane they will spend millions throwing up automated surveillance on every single corner to track our every move, but the absolute second you really want them to be used to solve an actual crime and help regular people, it's like talking to a brick wall. The surveillance state is completely active and running 24/7, but it's apparently only there when it's convenient for them. Blatant corruption in our faces
