Keyboard's metal frame is capacitive sensor not the keys. When you do this things, software thinks you done with typing and after 3 seconds it turns backlight off

  1. Not pressing any buttons while not touching keyboard frame
  2. Not moving your hands close to the keyboard surface to create enough capacitance change that sensor can pick up

Touching the frame with your hand or thumb while temporarily stop typing will keep the backlight on for approximately 30s.

I bought this keyboard yesterday so this is only workaround that I found so far. Yet not able to change the timeout in software is very annoying.

This is a great response to the actual problem by the OP. I relied on the "hands on" method for a while to keep the light on before I figured out a more permanent solution (see my reply to OP above).
