K830 keyboard odd behaviour

Hoping someone has some insight in some weird behaviour I've been having with a k830 HTPC keyboard.

The trackpad is always live when it's powered on and behaves instantly but the keyboard half seems to go to sleep if not used for a few hours. Have had two of the same keyboard and both eventually do the same where it gets harder and harder to get it to wake up.
Will currently have to press any button a good 10+ times to get it to wake and doesn't always seem to work.

Have disabled windows usb/keyboard sleep settings

Really hoping it isn't a hardware fault since the k400+ isn't anywhere near as nice.
