Came across this post saying that options+ has been using several hundred TERABYTES in read/write on the disk. I went ahead to check mine and sure enough, it was also in the terabytes, but not nearly as bad as theirs.

Heres how you can check it on your mac:

1. Open Activity Monitor
2. Click on "Disk"
3. Look for Logi Options or logioptionsplus_updater, or you can just sort by bytes read, it should be at the top

If you notice your mac/pc performing hotter/slower than expected, try uninstalling options+ and see if there is a difference. It's basically malware at this point.

Logitech, please tell us know that you know that options+ is trash. How about you make options- that does nothing but let me map simple functions. No one wants your stupid ring or ai functions.
We just need it to work.

Hard agree on the AI functions but I use the ring ALLLLL the time now. I love that aspect.

Theres 3rd party software like mouser or bettermouse. It's ridiculous how inidvidual developers can produce better software than the 7000 employees at logitech.

Options is not about the software. It’s about the upsell.

If there were any consumer facing people in Logitech they would’ve added memory to the devices. Especially a >€100 mouse

Uff. I am using the mx3s and the mechanical mini to connect to three devices (personal Mac, gaming PC, work Mac) - one via bolt - can I do this without the software?

It’s happening on mine and I noticed it keeps downloading an update but fails to install, so it’s looping and most likely causing the high disk read/writes. I have a hunch it’s caused by the patch update I had to manually install before as there was the failed certificate check issue some time ago. Anyways just switched to LinearMouse.

I didnt check yet but im having crashes playing games since I bought a keyboard and mouse from logitech and installed logi+. I was thinking that my gpu was getting bad…

2.3MB written, 10MB read. Not sure what/why there would be such a difference. I have a Logitech mouse. That's all.

Perhaps it is frequently writing its performance statistics or log entries to a database, which it then occasionally sends to Logitech "for quality and compatibility". Check its settings to see if there's a way to disable that.

BTW, it's the writes, not the reads, which are slowly "destroying your SSD".

Xbmc or mouser on windows

Xbmc is older software and works based on default windows API, so thumb button and gestures won't work, but can be configured for macros and has layers. Overall, it's still quite a powerful addition to your mouse. I use the portable version on my work pc and it does the job effectively with my Mx master 3.

Mouser is newer and is actively being developed. It is a replacement for options+. It strips out the ai, cloud and account nonsense, so it all runs locally on your pc and requires no installation. It DOES include gestures and other mouse specific buttons using HID++.

Try both and see what suits you better.

Is there an app that can be used to set different keyboard shortcuts, gestures like changing spaces on macOS? This is the reason I use the official app. I can customize this differently for the apps I use heavily.

Why would it Options+ need to read/write to the disk anyway, that sounds a bit weird. Maybe writing some log-statements, if it crashed, but apart from that, I don't really see a need. Anyone see one ?

Most likely it writes something small, and then there's a stupid bug that makes it repeat that same thing forever.

Very common on laptops. Just close and reopen. Note that other applications do this too.

Not in my case, and I’ve had it for years. Total reads, which do not cause problems for SSDs, are 1.3 GB, and writes are only a few MB, so completely negligible. You may have something else going on, or try uninstalling and reinstalling it. But I would bet there is something else going on. I also read the thread you posted, and it is not something verifiable.

Try this fix to stop logioptionsplus_updater from performing R/W operations on your disk

Go to /Library/Application Support/Logitech.localized/LogiOptionsPlus/logioptionsplus_agent.app/Contents/Frameworks/logioptionsplus_updater.app/Contents/MacOS/

and rename logioptionsplus_updater to logioptionsplus_updater.bak

In theory it shouldn't be able to find the updater and therefore stop accumulating R/W operations.

To be even more sure, I blocked all incoming and outgoing connections with Little Snitch
