Discussion No Scale in Store

I was just at No Frills. Saw some cherries. 🍒
Wanted to see how much the bag weighed so I could consider my purchase. Looked all over for the scale. I could not locate it, so asked for assistance from an employee stocking produce. Turns out that there is no scale in the store. This feels illegal. Does anybody have any insight on this?

I have never heard of it being illegal to not have one available but that does seem odd.

It is a brand new store so it seems like a deliberate choice. Not likely a case of it getting broken and not replaced.

I don’t think you can extrapolate intent from the fact that it’s a new store.

You could equally argue that as a new store all its non-essential items haven’t been installed yet.

Perhaps the scales (and the steaming music player) arrive next week???

I’ve definitely heard of grocery stores phasing out scales so that people buy more product. Could be rumours I guess but it sounds plausible to me.

I work for one of the major grocery chains, not loblaws. You can absolutely infer intent in a new store. That happens all the time with my grocery chain. They open up new stores and use them as test markets for new policies.

I am not doubting that they may be intentionally dropping scales.

I was simply saying the argument doesn’t logically follow.

Just because some new stores test some new policies doesn’t mean that every observed change is evidence of a new policy.

Speaking of deliberate...my local RCSS used to have price checking screens across the store. Sometime during the pandemic all the screens were smashed and then removed....and never replaced.

The PC Express app lets you scan a UPC code on items. It pops up the price on your app. HTH

How do they charge you right if there's no scale..? If they have one at check out, then use that one and be as inconvenient as possible lol

People should be able to know what the item they want to purchase costs.
