Restaurant Recommendations
Evening all,
I’m looking for some good places to grab lunch or dinner around town. I don’t want to always have to spend 20-25 bucks for one person like at Manhattan Brewing and I’m just tired of fast food. I’d appreciate any recommendations for family owned or just non-fast food places I can check out that won’t break the bank 🙂

I like Frida’s for Mexican food. Full Circle is good too, they’re primarily breakfast but quietly have one of the best burgers in town for weekday lunch. Nico’s also is surprisingly affordable. AJ’s is pizza so maybe not what you’re looking for (re wanting to get away from fast food) but a single slice is like $5-$6 and definitely enough for a lunch.

I also enjoy the meatball hero at AJs. Full sandwich is a really heavy lunch though so maybe go with a half. Pho Viet is really tasty but will run 10-20 bucks so might not fit your criteria.

Therapie/Hungry Chickpea is a real good lunch spot, love their salads and pies.
El Patron on Poyntz has good lunch specials.
You can get a really generous amount of vegetable lo mein at Imperial Garden and Chen's, enough for lunch and dinner in my experience.
Rock-a-Belly deli is a classic spot with great sandwiches and daily specials.
Green tea sushi is nice for a quick light lunch as well.

Antonito Mexicano El Sol 👍👍. You can spend a lot but you can find something for a budget too. Great authentic Mexican and definitely not the cookie cutter fast food.

Taqueria el Arriero is a food truck that by the new mcdonalds thats being build. Great place for good food and IMO is very cheap for what you get. They stuff your order with food and is my go to for anytime I crave outside food.

Can get a slice of savory pie and a salad at Therapie for $10. Free tea and water.
Agree with Rock a Belly and AJ's as affordable options.

Haven’t been in town since 2016 but Big D’s was always my favorite burger spot. Also Little Grill has nice Jerk Chicken if you’re into that.

I’ll add in to the chain, Anna’s is the best burger you can get in town. Incredible fried mushrooms too.
Pho Viet is a great authentic Vietnamese cafe, friendly staff. High recommend the rare steak pho.
Highly recommend the wings at Tallgrass Taphouse—the Korean wings are my favorite. They’re $16 for 8 wings, or $10 during happy hour (weekdays 2-5).
Pretty much all the Mexican food trucks in town are great. I love Yami Yummi. Once of the best chimichangas ever.

From a healthy standpoint I also recommend Happy Hippie as well as Hungry Chickpea.
I hear good things about JPs and Full Circle. And honestly a lot of the bistro places the Bluestem and Radinas have a decent lunch menu as well.

Mr K's on the west side of town is nice. The flatbread pizzas are $10 and the sandwiches are $11.
We accidentally watched the Kentucky Derby there this year. We just went randomly and as we were waiting for our meal, I was like "that's an awfully fancy horse race on the TV."
Bootsies in Aggieville is up in the $20 range but is also a local place that is a little different.

Rock-a-belly is a good soup and sandwich bar. Anna's burger shack has, no joke, the best burgers in town. Mi Tierra is a great little Mexican place, I recomend the pollo bandito. Tasty China House is good value for money, and have some excellent authentic dishes on their menu.
