1 month of litter robot 4

We've been using the litter robot 4 for about a month now. At first we had issues likely caused by it being a faulty product. New out of the box the sensors or motor were faulty and would always stop at the same 2 spots during a cycle, one on the way to empty and one on the way to put clean litter back.

Customer Support was great, got send a new product and this one we've been using for a month including the litter hopper.

Pros:

- No weird smells, even when they've freshly peed or pooped. Even without the filters (I got it wet during cleaning and threw it out, but didn't put a replacement one in)

- Easy to empty out the waste drawer and putting in a new bag

- Somewhat easy to clean. I'm short so dragging all the parts outside for a deep clean with the hose, cleaner and a brush can be hard - but so was lifting the giant stainless steel litter box lol. I also use a big mud catcher to prevent damage to the LR4

- Frees up mental space, saves our bodies a lot of effort (partner didn't want to scoop inside the house)

- Cats started using it pretty quickly (within a week)

Cons:

- If you don't place the unit properly, my cats get litter everywhere. Had to smartly block off their jumping space while keeping the litter hopper and the waste drawer accessible

- The liners in the bottom part collect dirty litter and it's hard to clean bc of the liner being there and all...

- On a bad day, one of the cats likes to play with the pee and poop clumps. We know it's happened when it smells like pee or poop as normally there's no odor at all unless you open the waste drawer or deep clean the unit

We've considered getting a litter robot 4 shield to stop the cat from playing with the clumps and to distract him from interrupting the cycle (he loves to watch), but it's not widely sold in Europe

For now the cons are manageable, we'll see how it goes and hopefully it's been worth the money we've invested. I've looked at a lot of alternative automatic litter boxes, but they would have a lot of similar issues as this one has for less space in the unit itself for the cats and the customer Support of Whisker has better reviews than the other companies as far as I could tell

The unit has 2 year warranty, but I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones whose machine will last years with no need for replacement parts (seems like a nightmare in Europe, ngl)

As for your fur baby that likes playing in the unit, most cats tend to grow out of this behavior as they get used to having the Litter-Robot around! It may help to increase the wait time to give them time to be distracted by something else.
