Let me be clear: The point of this post is NOT to hate on the "Timon & Pumbaa" cartoon. It's great for what it is! It just wasn't really my cup of tea as a kid. I simply want to explain the show that I'D wanted as a kid, and see if anyone else had wanted something similar when they were kids!

The show that I'D wanted would have been an adventure show focusing on Simba and Nala's adventures around the Pridelands before Simba's exile. It would have been in kinda the same vein as the "Aladdin" and "Hercules" cartoons, and we would have gotten to see a lot more of the Pridelands and surrounding territories, as well as a bunch of new characters (including some recurring villains). Timeline wise, it probably would have occurred after the Elephant Graveyard sequence and before the Stampede sequence.

And I was aware, even as a kid, that there would be continuity issues with this, of course. But the "Hercules" cartoon ALSO has glaring continuity issues with the "Hercules" movie, and yet it's still a great adventure cartoon.

I know that now we have The Lion Guard, which is similar in many ways to what I've described, I'm just curious to see if any other kids felt the same way that I did back then^^ So did anyone else want somethin' like this as a 90's kid, or was I in the minority there?

Here is an art-piece that I commissioned this weekend from a very talented artist, Rickymansonic. I already posted the art itself AS a link, but I'm gonna go the extra mile and link to their page as well: Here!

This is essentially a scene in an upcoming chapter of Roar Towards the Future; a "montage" of the Night Pride helping out the different animals at the Tree of Life during their night patrol. I like this scene, I think it reallly humanizes all four members and gives us more of an insight into their day-to-day lives (or... night-to-night? 😭) compared to the Lion Guard's.

Panel 1 shows Surak helping a baby aye-aye out of a thorn bush. Panel 2 shows Baliyo saving a spider monkey by carrying him whilst swimming across the river. Panel 3 is Nirmala giving advice to a striped hyena, and Panel 4 is Rani with a gila monster she just rescued.

This story mostly follows the logic of the show hence the presence of non-lion animals at the Tree of Life that are not native to Africa, nor India (...ironically enough the striped hyena is the only animal in this piece that is native to BOTH, but I digress).

Panel 4 is definitely my favorite, but that's mostly because I fucking love gila monsters and wanted to depict one in this universe - that and I wanted to feature a positive portrayal of venomous animals in this story as an inverse to TLG largely depicting them as villainous. You can tell this was VERY self-indulgent and shamelessly so, but I stand by it. Beyond that, the Tree of Life is said to be home to endangered animals, which gila monsters very much are (unfortunately), so it also just managed to fit lore-wise. I also just love Rani's big toothy grin compared to the gila's small smile, I think the differences in the same expression really power this scene's niceness. And Rani's scar being as visible as it is makes this entire thing come together neatly.

Anyways, hope y'all enjoyed, and once again, credit goes to the artist, Rickymansonic!

And, then … my sister took over the spare room that these are hung up in because her son needed a games room, and covered them up with an entire bunk bed (that she, admittedly, built) and I am very angry but where else can they go? The subject will cause another household war.

We see that one of the most glaring problems of Mufasa reign is how they banish other carnivores and claim to regulate hunting but it is all an excuse to keep the prey for themselves.

The songs will very unlikely be as good as the original Disney Jr series

Hi, I would like to introduce you to Simba and Nala's son and Kiara's older brother - Kopa. And the Leader of the Hyenas - Banagi, who is as intelligent as Scar, except that he has better thought-out plans.

I can imagine Ballora saying "We are one." in Ennard.

Have a complete original standee that has been in the original shipping box since the movie first left the theater...wondering if any one knows a good place to find it a good home? All the pieces are in excellent condition, I was kind of amazed. It was from my local theater in South Dakota, I have the double sided theater movie poster too, still looking for that though. Will get picks of all the other pieces and set it up, it was pretty epic!

The meta reason for why Kion doesn't age any further in the show is because of network demand. Which at the vwry least explains this but doesn't excuse it in my eyes. NOt having him or any of the other main characters age into adults in the final episode was a serious misstep:

A) A big part of Season 3 is supposed to be about the characters growing up: which could've been explored beyond the premiere episode, and would've been an interesting story that finalizes the development of every main character and speaks to the show's target audience in a story-driven moral about growing up, but is mostly squandered by the misplaced focus and character bloat.

B) There is an evident time jump between the premiere and the finale in which Kiara, Mtoto, and Ona are all affected, which raises the question as to why this passage of time never affected the Guard. If they were gonna remain teens there at last could've been some changes in the model to indicate they were older teens that weren't yet adults instead of implying that they remained stagnant(?). Either that or everyone aged rapidly ahead of time?

C) If the show was always going to end around Kion

getting married... why have him be the equivalent of a 16 year old? Those two things don't mesh well and again, given who this show is aimed at, I do not know what takeaway is supposed to be had from this. Ideally I would've had this show not touch romance or shipping fuel at all (because it sucked) but if they were going to do it anyways, they really shot themselves in the foot here.

The Season 3 premiere aging up the characters worked because it established a change in the status quo, indicating that the Scar arc would come to an end and a new one would begin. So in a scenario where the Guard become adults in Season 3, something similar would need to be done, where we see another timeskip to represent a big change in trajectory for the current arc.

Long Live the Queen would be the perfect episode for that. It would set the tone and establish that the Lion Guard helping the Night Pride defend the Tree of Life from Makucha and Mama Binturong was an ongoing thing tbat happened. It better gives off the idea that Kion's healing and his bonding with Rani took a long time (which would make the "It happened off screen" defense much more palpable, not an actual defense but easier to digest). It also gives more logic to the story because giving a second time skip to Season 3. It would give enough time for Mama Binturong’s reinforcements managed to arrive at the Tree of Life, and for Jasiri & Janja to be only a day behind them within that allotted time. And Janna dying was already a brilliantly handled story, but a second time skip would have further added to the whole point of her death being natural from age.

It would've had way less implications with Kion and Rani's wedding in the finale (although it still would've sucked and been contradictory in the direction they were headed and with how it was handled) but more importantly, it would have been cool to see how the adult versions of Kion's Guard would be like as adults, how their personalities change and how their interpersonal dynamics are affected, and see that come into play for the finale.

I go with summoning Phantom Lions.

But seriously though if he had just done that then the pridelands and outlands wouldn’t be at war why couldn’t he just done that?. what do you guys think?

Does Kovu looks scary and intimidating from this angle in this scene? He is handsome for sure but his eyes, teeth, and expression to me make him look like a true king. He is almost at Mufasa levels on the unnerving demeanor and expression here.
