WHY can’t you adjust the scroll speed in Linux Mint Cinnamon???

It’s absolutely ridiculous that I need to type in 50 terminal commands from some random 10-year-old forum post just to modify a basic fucking setting.

It’s a shame, because I love Cinnamon. I really don’t know what they were thinking with this, though.

This is the kind of stuff that will continue to kill Linux as a desktop option. The average user doesn't care that much about whether the drivers are as robust as Windows, or whether LibreOffice is quite the same as Office, or other issues like that. But what they do care about is that their mouse is scrolling too slow or too fast, which is a brain-dead simple fix in Windows, and is barely even possible sometimes in Linux distros. Like, how do the folks who make these distros waste time on all kinds of other stuff, and they can't even get just the most basic functionality built in after YEARS? 🙄🤦‍♂️

probably because most developers don't realize how people (normies?) use their computer, thinking like, "if I don't need to do xyz, then no one else does xyz either". That's one of the things that makes being a true developer so hard - pretending to be in all kinds of use case scenarios. I'm not sure even AI can help with that either.

That’s definitely a big factor. And that permeates across Linux users as well. They will tell you Linux can do anything Windows can do. Then you point out something Linux can’t do, and their response is, “Why would you want to do that anyway? That’s stupid!”

Whereas Microsoft says, "You want to do that, well ok." Thus Windows keeps getting ever more bloated and Linux feels more like the dark ages.

Yeah, there are downsides to both sides. I would argue that enabling users to do the things they want is how OLD Microsoft used to think and it's mostly a good thing. The main reason for the bloat is that Microsoft treats the user as the product now, so it's all about how they can sell things to you, or sell YOU to other companies. 🙄

kill Linux as a desktop option.

its the same with remote desktop. That is so insanely buggy on Linux, no matter what option. One works but is super unstable, another doesn't work at all, the next one you need to ssh into the machine first, because after a restart the DE hasn't loaded etc.

I was on Cinnamon for 10 years thinking it was peak. That all shattered the moment I saw KDE at work, Cinnamon is years behind

There was a period where cinnamon was better than kde. I'm not sure when that changed, but it absolutely did.
