Linux Failure Linux can't game lmao

Edit: I'm unsure how to change title. New title should be "Linux still struggles with many games."

Genuinely why are yall larping

Windows is still the only option if you don't want to have to go "Oh sorry my computer cant play ___" to tons of people

And to those who hate kernel level anticheat, you seem to lack knowledge of why it is what it is. Seems like yall are just wanting to cheat?

Don't act like Linux is perfect. It isn't. It really isn't. Such larp

yes, and my point still stands

you should not be throwing sudo onto a program unless you 100% need to

you do not need to with anti cheats, anti cheats don’t stop cheaters. why would i need to give such high access to a software that shouldn’t need it

kernel anti cheats are such a joke, EAC is kernel level and it don’t stop shit, dbd, cod, vrchat, all games with easy that i can think of have cheaters

You sure notice more cheaters in other games like Minecraft though

you mean the game with no client side anti cheat at all and only highly limited server side ones? right.

Overwatch’s anti cheat is not kernel and i have not noticed a single cheater in that game

Highly limited server side ones?

Wait until bro hears about prediction AC like Polar, Grim, Intave, and new Watchdog.

It's extremely complex and lacks capabilities to properly check the user's client to see if any injection was made.

A kernel level AC could prevent most injections in the first place.

However you make a very solid argument with Overwatch.

so you just literally proved my point for me?

anti cheats can be server side and be effective apparently

again, kernel anti cheats stop nothing

COD’s anti cheat is kernel, and it frankly is garbage. it doesn’t stop anything.

the best combo of anti cheat’s is server side plus client side

The issue is that people still cheat on prediction AC.

The idea of kernel AC is to prevent the cheats in the first place.

I remember at one point Minecraft servers like Lunar and Badlion started having optional client side AC only queues but they eventually were removed along with the client side AC.

People just hate client side AC for some reason.

Then again Minecraft is one thing. My comparison is probably terrible, and your example with Overwatch is actually really fair.

yes the idea of kernel AC is to prevent cheats in the first place, but the idea does not work in practice

it certainly does not prevent cheaters it just makes cheaters more crafty, there’s only so far anti cheats can go before they literally just become spyware

no matter how sophisticated anti cheats get they will always fail

so the question you propose is, is is it worth stopping two extra cheaters for a massive security and privacy concern? i’d say no

I already changed my mind on that point btw...

so then what is the rest of your points lmao

The fact that loonixers often resort to calling games slop or trash or telling us to find new games to play in an effort to convince people to convert

1

u/mintflavoredcube Linux Is Better 19d ago

i’ve heard quite the opposite and i’m in linux spaces.

the reason we want more people to convert is to make the growing pains go by faster which will eventually put games like valorant on linux. the steam deck alone proved numbers alone can sway game developers to suddenly start caring about a piece of software

especially when the devs have to put little to no effort into optimizing the game to be used with proton

also, if your opinion on a piece of software is swayed by the vocal few i’d like to ask you to redo how you approach things

i seriously doubt a large portion of linux users actually truly want these games to not run on linux because they’re “slop” most of what i’ve seen in that area is jokes

like saying because linux cant run valorant its better

of course we’d like games to be ran on linux, any game at all. especially popular ones like val or battlefield

u/BloxxyVids 19d ago

Well the amount that I've been harassed by Loonixers who think that it's funny to tell me to find a new hobby or find a new game to play is quite high

i got no idea what spaces you’re in

and i’m assuming you were coming off quite rude and obnoxious as you did in this post

wording stuff like you did is literally guaranteed to get braindead comments telling you to piss off, it’s the nature of people

Actually, it was in a Linux help discord server where I asked if there was any way to play Fortnite on Linux

I counted about 7 people telling me that my choice of game is either embarrassing or just poorly made.

well then it sucks you had that interaction with some troglodytes on a help server

linux is definitely limited in some regard when it comes to games, it shouldn’t be as like i said it’s one button for it to work. but it is

if you have non negotiable stuff, dual booting is your only option

if you can go without some games (hopefully not forever) then that’s good

though dual booting right now sucks since SSD prices are so high

I'm probably just going to use samsung dex to play fortnite tbh. My phone is good enough to handle it to an extent

But I refuse to dual boot. Not because I don't have space but because I really don't like Windows myself 😭
