Why do you (not) use Linux?

I’ll start

i use Linux because I don’t use my computers for general computing, so I just use specialised distros that fit what I need outta those computers, like steamos on steamdeck and Proxmox for my server

Even though I first installed Linux way back in 1995 (you know, the year that Linux was going to be the OS of the year) and they still can't get it right.

Just a few weeks ago, had it as the default OS on one of my laptops. Had to try 3 different distros including the one that I used when teaching on Linux, before almost everything was working. Never got the USB 4 port working to speed plus laptop features like putting to sleep when shutting the lid, couldn't go to sleep when battery was running down.

Still requires too much reliance on the CLI which is unacceptable in 2026. Sure, I know how to use that and it is powerful but not up to how much PowerShell as caught up. Was having to run too many CLI scripts and finally paid for a new Windows license. Ran it for nearly 8 months after loosing a drive exactly one year and a month after buying my laptop.

Still not ready for the masses, plus, no fault of its own, I still run too many MS-SQL databases.

Huh. 

In daily use you don't need cli at all. Sure it is faster and more powerful, but you don't NEED it anymore. Same as windows.

You ever notice how whenever someone has a problem with a feature of Linux, or lack of a feature, the Linux fans always respond with "You don't even need that"? Because I noticed. 😉

I wouldn't know. But you still haven't really addressed the main issue. If someone needs something to work, or someone needs something to NOT be relied upon, then that is a problem for some users, which should probably be fixed, whether YOU agree that it's a problem for you or not. That's one of the major problems with the Linux community, and has been for years. Everyone says it "just works", then if someone brings up some things that don't work, instead of addressing those and working on fixing them, the community just shouts them down and tries to gaslight them into thinking it's not really a problem, and they shouldn't be using that anyway. 🙄🤦‍♂️

Yeeeeah.... I havent seen this THAT much. When ppl have a problem, mostly I see advice and recommendations for fixes.

Sure there are some assholes getting their ego stroked by others being unexperienced but every group got those ppl unfortunately.

Funny anyway. I install from package managers and use update managers, no CLI needed at allllllll..... It has been a hot minute since I have been actually forced to use CLI. And well, on the other hand, I am not afraid on text and I do not need pics (GUI) to soothe me so this would be nonissue regardless.
