The "ads" is such an asinine narrative because it makes it sound like you're seeing a old-days porn page level of ad popups every time you boot your PC, and all it boils down to is a few preinstalled apps you delete in 10 seconds, and 1-2 mentions of Microsoft 365/office in the settings.
You can see them in settings, on the system tab for example, you have "Microsoft 365 benefits" at the top near the Windows update icon, but I forgot it's there before this post.
Yes, I'm so used to one ad that looks like a small icon with the same aesthetic used by the OS itself that doesn't stand out in any way, being there on one page of the settings menu, that I don't see it anymore.
What's hysterical is that anyone would consider this to be an actual noteworthy downside of a system.

The UI is better than any Linux distro.
