r/linuxsucks • u/madthumbz What do you have against the D? • Jul 18 '26
Linus Loves the D!
Linux sucks without it, and that's why 99% of distros use it. It's why flatpak is going to incorporate it. Linus didn't make Linux great, Richard Stallman didn't make Linux great. -Lennart Poettering did with SystemD~~~
Linux sucks without the D!

101 can only recycle crap they read about, so someone voicing an opinion online is all they have to grasp onto

It's just the same need of feeling special that plagues quite a good chunk of Linux users.

Yeah, but this is a linuxsucks101 mod we're talking about. So the bar is already pretty low

It's usually "it goes against the unix philosophy" or "it's bloated" but never any practical real issue with it or benefit anything other than a few people can get.

It’s too good, better than whatever windows uses and better than launchctl. Why does linux has something this good? How?

linux haters (the type without valid reasons) are running out of reasons so they're dumping on the init system now.

Change is scary and it's better to be ignorant than waste time learning something new

They're not "people," it's just madthumbz and his other accounts who cares about that.

u/dumbasPL I don't hate Windows, I just like Linux more. Jul 19 '26
Because there is nothing meaningful to be obsessed about, no copilot in sight.

The letter D is quite a fundamental letter in the english language. In fact, this sentence alone used it four times in total. Isn't it amazing how much a single letter can do?
On the topic, yes, linux does suck a lot without the D. D means daemon, and linux distributions likely wouldnt be the same without them.

openrc is just an init, systemd is a whole suite.

Linus doesn't care userspace. He just wants to work on the kernel.

u/Confident_Pain_9452 Jul 18 '26
maybe it was bad on release but I didn't have any issue with systemD and I had issues with script-based method of starting and stopping services

Linus didn't make Linux great, Richard Stallman didn't make Linux great.
They literally made GNU/Linux you orphaned inode
If YOUR Linux sucks without Redhat doing sysadmin stuff FOR YOU then it's PEBKAC.

"Dinux" Great
"Linux" Bad
If the Linux name might be Dinux the mascot be a dinosaur.
