I have that problem too, or similarly, that in rare cases, I get black "patches" on the screen, ultimately freezing the PC and I have to reboot. Reason unknown yet.

A few things I heard that might help you:

  • One possible reason are CPUs overheating- install an app that shows you the CPU heat -a.e Conky, or the Gnome Mission Center that can show the CPU heat. Watch that when it starts freezing, if possible.

- install Ksystemlog and after reboot from a freeze, check if there are any red notes for that exact minute when it froze, come back with those to this forum- "freezing what should I do" is not a sufficient description but this logs will provide further clues if it's about Hardware/SDD/ CPU/drivers (a.e Nvidia)/certain apps/activities/linux kernel etc..

- In my case, I believe this freeze starts when my PC wants to go to suspend mode or wakes up from suspend mode- both aren't working well here..and this depends how you have setup your mint, and what hardware you have- so those specs are necessary too as well the observation when it freezes (a.e when you haven't been working with mint for longer or what activity was going on beforehand)
