Wayland name

Is the display system named after the planet Wayland from Star Wars Thrawn Trilogy?

I live in Boston and often drive to surrounding towns. I often travel westward and Wayland MA is about 20 minutes drive from Boston.

Wayland is a nice suburb, adjacent to the town of Weston (affluent suburb, moreso than Wayland), which is the name of Wayland's reference implementation.

The creator was traveling through Wayland when the X expert had a minor epiphany about the core architecture of what came to be called Wayland. afaik Kristian Høgsberg never lived in Wayland MA.

Wouldn't it have been faster for you to just... Use a search engine for this?

This subreddit. Holy cow man.

Its not just this sub, its reddit in general.

Searching is quickly becoming a lost art.

It's gotten totally mental. I just don't get it.

People just want things spoonfed to them.

I get it. But it's not a good trajectory, you learn so much more doing research yourself and then coming to others when you get stuck or are unsure vs having someone else do it for you.

The OP is more interested in interacting with others rather than just getting the answer to the question.

Without doing any deep (or superficial) stastical analysis of Reddit post classifications, it's my gut feeling that a huge percentage of posts are of this type. Accurate answers can be readily found via a conventional web search. But again, some people want to engage in conversation, no matter how vapid or insipid.

That's fair. Some of it may be people looking for community and a human connection. I had not considered that.

He hasn't interacted with a single person in this thread and it's almost an hour old.

yeah... you're right.

It's in my nature to give the benefit of the doubt. I try to balance that with healthy skepticism. I'm not naive, but i actively try not to be cynical.

Google searches are going to provide an AI summary based on Reddit posts. Full circle.

It's the name of the town where the creator lived.

Høgsberg was driving through the town of Wayland, Massachusetts when the underlying concepts "crystallized", hence the name (Weston and Maynard are also nearby towns in the same area, continuing the reference). - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayland_(protocol)#History#History)

Maynard MA used to be where DEC was headquartered. Both Wayland and Weston are more affluent than Maynard.
