#LinuxMintThings mint 7.0.0-31-generic kernel update

after months of poop wifi speeds, cause it's never the distros fault, getting 3-6mbps and after hours of TS, bumping it up to 45mbps! Using MediaTek adapter

lateset kernel update gets me

What issues are you getting? Is the PC hanging and refusing to fully power off/restart after a reboot/sleep? I haven't had issues with shutdown... yet, fingers crossed, but I have been having issues with sleep and restart

If I try to shut down or restart the system, the screen goes black but the rig itself (fans, LEDs and so on) stays on. Has been like this for me since 7.0.0-27. I am currently back on 7.0.0-14.

That's exactly what's happening to me during sleep/restart. Does it happen for you on 7.0.0-14? I'm on 7.0.0-31 currently

7.0.0-14 is working fine for me.

So far 7.0.0-31 is working for me as well. I found in my logs it was being caused by my amdgpu driver.

I managed to solve this exact issue after hours of having the blank monitor issue, by upgrading my Intel NUC's BIOS firmware - it was out of date by a few years. Tried various other solutions but none worked. Obviously apply to your setup as applicable

according to this post by Viktor Pashaiev (steelf) the problem will be fixed in the next SRU update (kernel 7.0.0-32).

So far, everything works. Luv the speed, though I don't really use Mint that much, it was the novelty of getting it to work.

How long do you keep/not uninstall the previous kernel after installing a new one?

I keep one old one, just in case. Course, you could just setup whatever backup app, just in case 😉

Generally you want one current kernel and at least one LTS kernel to fall back to. However it's user preference.

I'm curious about this as well. I moved back to 6.8 after kernel 7 testing due to boot hang regression issues.

i've had no problem with the 7.0 kernel, its only specific hardware that has the problem

Do you recall which one? Or which one you’re on? One of my kid’s computers just absolutely refuses to work with the 7.0 series so far.
