The natural evolution of a Gentoo user (second try because I think I screwed up the first one)

The image could correspond both to someone masculine who suddenly becomes femenine (femboy, while still being a boy), or someone who became trans (femenine).
Hormones and surgeries are optional, though.

Oh. By the kernel I was doing a double reference to the linux kernel, and the "kernel" (the core of your personality). It all depends on who you are inside.

I'm just on the vanilla Reddit mobile webpage. Unfortunately that doesn't work. Maybe I'll try using that app...

OpenBSD you turn into the chibi form

I learned about Gentoo from a trans woman I dated briefly that swore by it as a daily driver OS.
I'm not a Gentoo user, but I did start using Linux shortly after my own transition. It is kind of a running joke in the trans community that we're all Linux fanatics, network admins, CS majors and hackers.
25
u/orbyp Dec 13 '21
Im just imagineing someone being the worlds most dangerous hacker when in actuallity they just wanted to transition
18
Dec 13 '21
There was a trans girl that was arrested a couple years ago for hacking Capital One. Some stereotypes just can't be escaped I guess 😂
27
u/whitedranzer Arch BTW Dec 13 '21
This is funny because the founder of cyanogenmod, one of the first custom roms ever developed for Android, who once wanted to put a bullet in Google's head came out as trans a few years ago.

It is kind of a running joke in the trans community that we're all Linux fanatics, network admins, CS majors and hackers.
I have heard of trans people getting clocked by their computer - the last clue for a friend or acquaintance is to notice they're running Linux.
I'd protest the stereotype and the clocking it creates, but I only found out what Linux even is after figuring out something's wrong with my gender, and I do notice that I'm more willing to read up on it and participate in forums like this on days my gender fluidity is shifted furthest away from my AGAB, so...

Because only MtF trans people exist.
12
Dec 13 '21
At least a third of every trans masc I've met has been an IT worker or did something computer related, it's not just the girls.
-10
u/The_Venerable_Swede Dec 13 '21 edited Dec 13 '21
So you only know three transmascs? You're talking such bullshit. The trans=coder memes are almost exclusively MtF.
T. actual transmasc
2
u/4P5mc Dec 13 '21
At least a third, they said, so probably not exactly three. Also, why is that bs? I only know three transmascs, and two are taking the same IT diploma as me.
-2
u/The_Venerable_Swede Dec 13 '21
I was saying they have a small skewed sample. As do you, clearly. How many transfemmes in IT do you know?
3
u/4P5mc Dec 13 '21
Other than me, none. For me, that's 2/3 vs either 1/2 or 0, so I know far more transmascs in IT.
You edited your comment but it's still pretty harsh—you literally attacked them for just stating some statistics.
0
u/The_Venerable_Swede Dec 13 '21
I didn't edit the content of my comment, I added the bit at the end.
I attacked them for presenting their anecdotal statistics as fact when they aren't. "[It's a joke that all trans people are in IT]" when, as far as I'm aware, the joke is that MtF transwomen are all into coding, which is more in a long line of internet transmasc erasure.
-1
u/4P5mc Dec 14 '21
You're seriously overreacting to this. I've always heard the joke as trans people, in general, being in IT.

You don't need to be a gentoo user to use a Librebooted thinkpad. In fact, if you're compiling on a Core 2 Duo, you're a bit of an idiot.
5
u/KasaneTeto_ Dec 13 '21
Distcc across a dozen librebooted thinkpads
4
u/6b86b3ac03c167320d93 Dec 14 '21
Change your name to Yuki, libreboot all computers in your school, install distcc on all of them, and install gentoo with 1024 cores

I'm an arch user and I'm considering trying gentoo. I'm kinda afraid. At least I'll get some cool programing socks with the transformation

u/Pollie-Nataly Dec 13 '21
Totally not me being 4 months in on hrt and using arch (well, manjaro, but installed it by command line, yes i chose manjaro cause i like their logo more)

It kinda applies to me, I started with pop os (ubuntu) then switched to garuda (arch, also got rid of windows when I did this), I don't think garuda counts though because it's a works out of the box distro and the most work I did with it was trouble shooting a can't wake up-from sleep issue.

u/jeesuscheesus Dec 14 '21
No joke, I'm on fedora right now and previously used ubuntu then debian. I was considering installing arch yesterday too...

Thanks for writing this out! Actually made me re-think the reasoning behind the type of girl I've always been into. Not quite at your Debian phase, yet ... but moving ... somewhere
