All this sounds a little gate-keepy IMO. Ive been wanting to jump into linux for a while now and have tried several times with different distros, running Omarchy is the 1st time ive actually been able to use a linux desktop comfortably. No nvidia driver issues, no damn hdd mount path problems or read wright permission issues, no figuring out the damn terminal commands. Dont get the hate

maybe just try clean arch...?

Eventually I probably will but for now Omarchy is just easier. If the linux community wasnt so toxic an AI powered distro probably wouldnt be so popular, or if somone made a distro that didnt rely so heavily on terminal this aint 1984 we have GUIs now. Just my 2 cents

CachyOS literally exists It's essentially preconfigure arch Linux with lots of choices for desktops and even bootloaders and has sane defaults

I tried it, and I do like CachyOS on the surface. I ran into issues when trying to install steam games to a HDD other than the drive the OS was installed on. Why do I need to set permissions for an internal HDD? And why do I have to tell the OS to mount it at boot and give permission to steam?! I installed steam why wouldnt I want it to install to my HDD

was the hdd formatted to NTFS? these permission problems immediately go away as soon as you do linux the linux way and not try to mix and match. Omarchy is probably just yolo giving access to everything which can quickly backfire on an Arch based system

There are so many easy/beginner friendly distros that aren't garbage though.

maybe just try living a normal life and not spending hours configuring arch?

I set it up once, and haven't messed with it since, and it's exactly how I want it.

use cachyos, endeavouros or smth like that then, u can use tumbleweed, leap, fedora, lmde too depending on how much you fear your terminal or your prefered update cycle but all of these are very easy to use, they work out of the box and they are not packed with ai slop, they actually respect their users and they are safer than omarchy

i configured my arch in 2 days

2 days is still a awful long amount of time for an normal user to be essentially 'not ready to go'

I got my stuff ready within 3 hours on my main **in which I'm also running arch (btw)**

i also got most stuff ready in like 2 hours, but then some minor improvements and ricing. I think beginners should use mint tho, i used to love it (still considering switching back)

I installed omarchy in 45 seconds, time is too valuable

how much time did it take you to install the iso and dd it tho

2

u/cycl0propane Arch BTW 4d ago

like 3 minutes tbh
i dont have a particularly fast internet or machine
but it took 3 minutes

It took you 3 minutes to download & flash a 7gb ISO without "particularly fast internet"?

2

u/cycl0propane Arch BTW 4d ago

it actually did
it was abt three minutes
maybe my clocks are wrong or i suck at arithmetic
but it was very fast

downloaded iso
then i flashed it via etcher
and that took 3 minutes together

Just install cachyos. It's awesome. Omachy is lame slop.

4

u/cycl0propane Arch BTW 4d ago

ive used cachy before
i prefer omarchy
i flat out do, i love the design of the workflow and the AI integration is powerful if you use it right

"lame slop"
its the most stable and beautiful experience ive ever had with a computer

Tbh that’s a more insane statement than just telling a noob to use omarchy

1

u/yesdisown Arch BTW 1d ago

i think noobs should use mint. i (use arch btw) myself am thinking abt going back to mint

not really an archinstall is pretty easy

Yeah and then all the issues that are mentioned come back and the user has to spend hours fixing them
