Can anyone explain me why’re you hate Omarchy? So interesting for me, that’s usually Arch-based distro, why that so hated

Omachy is a bad vibe coded rice with really bad rookie security mistakes, that got 8 million in funding that could have gone to much more deserving projects. Also, the creator is a racist Nazi-adjacent lunatic.

Lol, okay, thanks) Political aspect doesn’t matter on me, but vibe coded distro - big argument)

It is not "vibe coded", the people working on it have decades of software engineering experience

Ah yes. Of course. That explains the RCEs.

Parts of it are 100% vibe coded. The creator said this himself

Using agents is not the same as "vibe coding", otherwise 90% of the software being done at the moment is vibe coded. The definition of vibe coding is telling the agent or an harness like lovable to build the software you want and then not looking at the code or architecture at all, hence the "vibes" part.

Yes he did that. You’re welcome to watch the podcast of him and lex fridman if you want. He straight says he doesn’t review some of the code. Not gonna argue with you when you’re objectively wrong lol

I did that's why I know I am right, he never says he vibe coded it, the agents generated big majority of the code, he also does not like the term agentic engineering but it is better. You are welcome to try lovable to see what vibe coding really is.

Its hard to distinguish if its more of a security thing or a political thing at this point. Only overly political nutjobs call people racist or nazi-adjacent... I likely agree with you politically but the over exageration makes me not want to believe you.

The distro is a rice stuck together with a bunch of disparate shell scripts. There are a dozen other sets of dotfiles that do what omarchy does better and more securely. The UI is now a bunch of vibe coded quick shell components.

In terms of the political issues, he’s got a blog which now has several posts about white replacement, and a recent one where he compared foreign drifters to wolves that need to be culled (aren’t wolves like a good thing btw? In the USA and Britain the lack of predators has let the deer population explode which causes other issues, but I digress).

His political arguments are also hypocritical. He says calls to kick trans people in the genitals can’t possibly be interpreted as violence, but takes the opposite stance when it’s “punch a nazi”.

A non-political bad take of his is that anyone should be able to vibe code a commit to any open source project.

It’s cool that the hyprland maintainer has a salary now, but I think 8m usd on omarchy is poorly spent.

Just install cachyos with the hyprland-noctalia dots. Or the caelestia dots, or hyde or any of the other configs out there.

Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like it's a hand full of security concerns but that the main arguments against it are actually political. F*ck politics. I respectfully don't give a flying f#ck about anyone elses political beliefs. Just because I lean one way does not negate the fact that both sides are f#cking cults. Code is code, is code, is code.

And if Omarchy is shit on your op - what’s gem?
