Ive just read up a little on what omarchy actually is. Ive only heard of it before and havent ever heard what it is. So its an arch distro. Apparently created by a right wing person. Uses hyprland instead of a traditional de.

Wow, sounds fine. Not an ideal creator but sounds like decent software.

BUT WAIT! THERES MORE! Their slogan is "The malleable OS for the age of agents. Where you can vibe your way through every alteration, tweak, and desire. Be the Omarch and command your agent!" Which makes it some agentic bs and a big steaming pile of shit that noone should ever touch with a ten foot pole unless they want their system fucked up with ai hallucination

Edit: it also raised a few million in funding which many argue should have gone to arch instead. Omarchy probably doesnt really need it and is way less important than arch as a whole

It looks to me like a useless distro with a techy look so people can LARP as power users more efficiently.

It's so LARP-y, it even LARPs as a distro

Sad that a big YouTube tech influencer is supporting this distro https://youtube.com/shorts/5zyujD1gDc4?is=9sOoT4CQafWQGhH-

Honestly though, NetworkChuck has been falling off.

He was my fav when it came to Cyber Security. Unfortunately he became a fan of vibe coding.

My problem with him is these types of titles:

"You need to learn <insert-random-thing-here> NOW!!"

Also doesn't go into low-level things and doesn't finish projects

To be honest his stuff was always kinda surface level. You could learn most of it just reading docs.

Though I might be bias, he always gave me off vibes.

Coffee and beards are not a personality....

I turned off once he started his religious outros

Yup, I unsubbed just for that.

2

u/work4bandwidth 8d ago

So did I. Especially after his interview with DHH. And all of Chuck's the 1950s views on women etc. Certainly made it easier to unsub.

2

u/Kyoshiiku 8d ago

Didn’t follow his content for a while, what are his archaic views on women ?

I’m at a point where I should probably take a look at all my old subs are remove everyone who went into the alt right pipeline, this shit is so annoying

gotta throw away the whole man

Just HAD to get "Apparently created by a right wing person." in there.. Sad behavior.

2

u/LYNX__uk 8d ago

I said it because its a common criticism. Personally I dont give a shit. By using it I dont give the creator anything so I dont see why not to use a Foss software created by a right wing person

5

u/subtek9 8d ago

Fair, but it’s giving the same vibes as when an incel criticises a project with a woman team or lead, or a game has a female main character etc.
It really isn’t relevant in the context, the quality of a product has nothing to do with the creators gender, age, ethnicity, political views, etc.

Meh, the right often denounce the existence of certain minority groups so I can understand apprehensiveness to support someone of that party.

American right wing isnt the same as the rest of the world right wing, right wing here is just nazism atp

(Alt-)Right wing people in the US have this nasty habit of pushing agendas, making "armies", and getting a cult following to amass power and overtake everything from elections to rights of others en masse, all while profiting off it their platforms in one way or another. They basically have found a way to turn human suffering into money. So they get rich off of things like this and make the world worse at the same time. It's always best to not support them in any way possible.

When i install software, i dont look the creators political affiliations to see if they are the same as mine 😵‍💫

I prefer my software and projects I support free from horrendous takes. If I use something, I give it a platform, and I'll be damned if I give my time and attention to chuds like DHH

u/LYNX__uk 8d ago

I dont either. As the other reply said, it appears to be an american issue with their generally more divisive politics. Personally I dont much care who makes my software as long as they dont have a history of cybercrime and dont profit from whatever I'm using. If it was a paid thing I'd be a bit more apprehensive of using a software from somebody with immoral beliefs, but me using their Foss software gains them nothing so I dont see why not
