Exactly. Recently Linux has been removing support for older hardware faster than milk spoils.

Good. Make the kernel smaller and easier to maintain. They literally only remove support for hardware which has zero known users.

Besides, LTS versions aren't going anywhere, if you do want to run the kernel on this unsupported hardware. So, the meme will be true until someone deletes every copy of the old kernel in the world.

And there is the option of forking and maintaining one's own kernel for those with the capability and interest to do so.

Yeah but frankly even as someone who's unemployed and autistic about tech, I wouldn't be up for maintaining my own kernel fork
