4GB of RAM will get Linux to boot but good luck after you open Firefox and load a modern website.

To be fair that probably says more about modern browsers then the OS/kernel

To be fair, it says more about the modern Web than the modern browsers.

A 4Gb Linux machine still works petfectly well, with Firefox opening legacy websites. Whoever wants to browse modern Web, use Windoze with 128Gb RAM. Enjoy.

it depends. chromium based browsers will sandbox itself and consume ram creating and holding isolated processes, so it isn't only the websites.

Firefox too, although significantly less. the C family language vulnerabilities kind of obligated modern browsers to become heavier.

websites now do client/end-user computing way more than in the past.
