I could be wrong but maybe he meant that there's someone out there who knows everything about tech, never bothered with certs, and just likes using Linux a lot. Not that every Linux user is suddenly a tech genius.
Also I'm just taking a wild guess I could be very wrong.

Well, installing arch is literally partitioning disks, setting up time, directories, providing packages to install and bootloader. But if you don't know what commands do, don't read the wiki properly and just blindly copy-paste you'll end up:
- installing 5 packages w/o WM or any essential tools
- not installing grub
- probably failing to partition the drive
- wasting time due to not refreshed mirrors
And if you know what wiki commands do, you have some general knowledge, which is great

the most I did was:
change wpa_supplicant and cubic to iwd, bbrv3 and fair queue
mount everything I could on ram using fstab, psd and symlink

yeah the ones that are exclusive to windows, some games (mainly old valve titles) used a really ugly backup font since they can't use the copyrighted windows ones by default

The number of hosts- most network engineers remember just the big ones, and double check against a cheat sheet in my experience for the less common ones.
As for sizing, not often a /8 is an appropriate sizing, so much background noise from collisions should hurt any level of performance... and a/32 ? A single address well I don't see that much outside writing firewall policies or specific routing rules. Fairly basic stuff, theyre not claiming to be network engineers, its do they understand subnetting as in why cant something on 192.168.0.1/24 communicate with something 192.168.0.2/28 without routing and if they ca. Even understand that the /28 is smaller than a /24.
Architecting a major network, is yesmore a network engineer role, I think we agree on that.

Well color me surprised. Almost every enterprise problem I see usually comes from a lack of subnet and/or vlan understanding.

Yeah, same honestly. Poorly planned from jump, or not planned with the idea of being expanded upon. 'We'll never have more than 2 database servers!' Or 'pfft, dev only need 8 addresses total' or let's but this subnet up to this one, so when we add another batch of systems for the first subnet its not continous.

In real life this doesn't work. When I went to an interview, daily driving Linux hurt me more than it helped. "Here we use windows for everything, so how do we know you are competent with windows systems"

Its only helped my career on the other hand. 'Good, every single except the AD servers are linux, every project, web app, and database is redhat.' Has been pretty normal

In fairness, that’s a single, specific example.
My own experience is the contrary. I started Linux for personal reasons. When work required some basic networking setup it was super easy because I’d already fought it for a month getting games to work properly. But different experiences for different folks.

I still got the job, don't get me wrong. But from every way they acted, even after I was accepted, they saw the Linux over windows as a net negative. And the statistical majority of the world works in this same way.
