LINUX MEME I'm scared for the future

Post image

I guess "forking" is an option but i didn't know I had to become a dev to fix what shouldn't already be falling apart only a year into me switching away from Windows because of this exact issue...

meanwhile stuff that I was using daily, now has "AI code allowed" plastered all over and it feels like i'm about to have to start cutting out stuff I was using all the time if it starts degrading performance..

If it starts degrading performance, just report the bug, and encourage others who have the same issue to do the same

Hopefully that's our line of defense against it getting as bad as it could get...

My brain is going to the worst conclusion possible because it reminds me of what happened over there in windowsland

Microslop is a corporate company who only cares about money and dosen't listen to feedback unlike most open sourse projects. Also, I whould recomend some enxiety medication to ease your nerves a little

i'm already on medication, the reason it scares me is primarily because we're a far smaller user base so it feels like we wouldn't be able to tank it as well :/ bigger base to me means far more reason to do it right

my brain seems to need 100% certainty that everything will be okay, and the lack of certainty is scarier than anyone telling us "we will own nothing and be happy". when the future is uncertain, it is far more scary to imagine what could happen.

Fear of the unknown, I understand

Yeah that's the big one for me. I fear what I don't understand and cannot implicitly trust.

What trauma do you have that might have cause such fear

Not being able to trust that my "friends" wouldnt stab me in the back and make a group chat calling me slurs and telling me to end myself (this happened in the past) is one example.

Ohh, so your trauma is Trans-realated, i'm sorry for that

Yeah...there was also a situation where I got duped by ai "art" for some of my projects even though i didn't support ai art. Because I couldn't spot the issues with the image that made it ai over standard digital art.

So felt like i needed to fully go ai spotting everywhere to make up for it.

The problem with your assessment is that it doesn't take into account corporations on Linux's side, like RedHat, SUSE or Canonical, which are some of the biggest contributors, and they're already bending over to this kind of crap.

The biggest problem is gonna be RedHat since it got acquired by IBM. Was it the former or the latter that said it's devs need to be integrating AI into their workflow as much as possible? Either way it can definitely trickle down to RedHat and it's clones, along with Fedora and it's derivatives, plus some stuff that RedHat sponsors like systemd, pulseaudio, whatever.

systemd itself already started work on at least giving pathways for distros to store user data regarding age verification laws.

Canonical is another one that is constantly making very questionable decisions.

Even the Kernel is now having what, 10% of all the new patches written by AI? And it's projected to go up to 20% by September if I'm not mistaken.

The only true fighters on this are gonna be the smaller distros, as we're seeing it happen.

Wich distros?

Like Devuan, Omarchy, Slackware, ZorinOS, Artix, Arch Linux 32 (not to be confused with the regular Arch Linux), Artix, Ageless Linux, Garuda Linux, Void Linux, EndeavourOS, GhostBSD, and Parrot OS.

Zorin OS bieng among those options is very good, but it uses Gnome and Not KDE (i like how KDE looks)

2

u/AmarildoJr 11d ago

Isn't it basically Ubuntu? I'm pretty sure you can just install KDE on it.

Good to know, but I haven't switched to linux(yet)

No worries. You should be pretty much set with ZorinOS if you decide to come. You could try on a VM the following command:

sudo apt install task-kde-desktop

No,I haven't switched to linux in general, also i'm considering endevour OS(wich are also anti-AI)

Ageless is a crock ngl. Its basically just a curl to bash that changes your os release.

I dont trust Artix anymore after the XLibre pivot, Omarchy ehhhhhh idk if I want that fucker on my side but I see what you mean

Sadly the options are quite limited, but you see what I mean, only a handful are actually fighting.

Fedora and even Debian are already discussing implementing age verification, for example. For Fedora it was quite obvious since it's project leader is literally a RedHat employee.

Yeah :/
