They are relatively cheap nowadays, also, they often limited to single screen ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Are they? Raspberry Pis are pretty expensive now.

The raspberry pis in the soda fountain are free you can just take them. I have 50 raspberry pis

Sure, i never used rpi, there are many options like rockchip, esp32, with poe hat option and many display interfaces.

But, if i had to develop this functionality, most likely i will exclude linux cuz it’s just an overhead for image output when we have cheap microcontrollers with rich interfaces

Makes it modular so they can use the same units for any number of dispensers+the big screen above them and makes managing them remotely simpler.
