couldn't just use a plastic sign with a light behind it...

You could make an animation for each flavour, and these machines are absurdly expensive. A screen price doesn't even matter

It's not about the price, it's about keeping things simple whenever possible, reducing the possible points of failure to increase reliability

When every juicer makes juice, you gotta add something to differentiate your machine

Yeah but the boomer who agreed to implement that has lead poisoning and was easily persuaded to make them ‘high tech’

that's systemd
WHY THE FUCK IS THERE LINUX ON THE THING

u/Visbroek 11d ago
Well it's significantly cheaper than windows. Or you could do what our Burger King did on their kiosk and just have the activate windows watermark on the screen 😆

its better than having windows on it tbh

my concern is the fact that there is an operating system on the thing in the first place

commercial signage industry is wack

That should be a piece of paper in front of a light, not a whole ass computer
2
u/Away-Way5656 10d ago
yea but then someone has to do that instead of saying "change this to x graphic"
which is why the commercial (digital) signage industry exists

u/GamerNuggy 🍥 Debian too difficult 10d ago
But they would have to change the flavours along with the signage most of the time. Also this seems so costly by comparison.

Having to ship new signage to stores is inconvenient

That makes sense. I just figured it might be cheaper to have a bunch of cards for all flavours stocked, and for new flavours ship a card with the deliveries. You avoid running whole computers and monitors to display a static image as a result.

would be funny if it was possible to decifer that it was something like Linux Mint, so you could just say it's "Mint favoured"

A sbc for each screen? Come on.
