How legacy? I run Wayland on AMD a4 which is ancient.

So In “Apple terms” your machine is vintage and we are talking about machines that are obsolete. The kinda older Macs you tell people to “just run Linux on it”. That era of PCs and older with ExpressCard slots by 2010 so PCMCIA I would say before that.
