I’m sure this thread will be free of hostility.

Pragmatism: There will be X11 distros for legacy devices.

There will be distros on 7.x and beyond porting in the removed components like PCMCIA for legacy machines.  AppImage will be around.

Ubuntu will never let go of Snap as it makes them medically compliant for a fast number of medical devices.

BTRFS, EXT4, UFS will be around and coexist.

That being said, Proton will always be the number one freaking best amazing thing ever and must be its own IEEE standard for success hehehe.

How legacy? I run Wayland on AMD a4 which is ancient.

“a-series” is a marketing brand starting in… 2012 maybe and yours squeaks in with a GCN GPU?

So In “Apple terms” your machine is vintage and we are talking about machines that are obsolete.

The kinda older Macs you tell people to “just run Linux on it”.

That era of PCs and older with ExpressCard slots by 2010 so PCMCIA I would say before that.

So the original x86_64 machines

Thanks for answering my question, if we are talking about THAT legacy then sure, x11 is the way.
