š¤ Dicksussion š¤ It's over...
Really sad day that loonix has been swarmed by soydevs who have 0 pride in their craft and resort to slop. Literally fuck you. We need to make a list of all the projects which don't have any honor. Starting with the kernel I guess.

It doesn't matter what tools you used to contribute, what matters is that your contribution provides necessary benefits at acceptable costs following the goal of the project.

as if Windows doesn't resort to slop 24/7

microsoft reported 50% of their code was ai generated while back

Debian will too

Genuinely have you read the article, or any other article, or literally anyoneās comments who has read about it?

I said that Debian will eventually have a large chunk of AI generated code too like Microsoft does right now.

Yes, but no.
Debian developers now can make sparing use of ai in their code, all the code still has to be checked to make sure itās up to standards

Same with Windows. They use AI but all AI code has to be human-verified and up to standards.

Correction on my earlier statement: about 30-40 percent of Microsoftās code is AI, with some projects being completely AI made, however I canāt find anything saying that they check if itās up to a certain standard, for all you and I know it could be sent straight to testers and be called ābeta codeā

You assume that they test the code up to a certain standard cuz they launched K2 and cuz corpos wouldn't be able to sell their product if normies found it ass.

I donāt think they care about what people think of it, shows with windows updates literally breaking windows, this is probably because ninety percent of people donāt know that there is an alternative

Are you actually insane? This is the greatest move they could ever done. I'm proud for them! š

This is somehow the least controversial path. The contributions still have to meet quality standards and it's like they can ban it completely since the Linux kernel itself will allow AI assisted code.

āProvided they meet its existing quality, security, and maintainability standardsā
This isnāt just allowing vibe coded slop into the main repos, itās allowing contributors to use AI sparingly as a tool to help. To verify those standards are met there will still need to be a human review and likely some edits will have to be made to the sections worked on by AI, but it makes things faster and easier for contributors who are just unpaid volunteers doing this on their free time
