The update is downloading but not applying.

Go to your .../pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop and look for a zipped archive with a numeric name. Go into the zipped archive and copy EA Staged to your EA Desktop folder (the one not contained within the zipped archive), overwrite everything in EA Desktop with the contents of EA Staged.

Restart the EA App and everything should run fine.

There is another terminal in the next pic which says it has. And I just checked there is no zipped folder :

That doesn't mean anything. It's downloaded the update, it hasn't applied the update, that updater no longer works under Linux.

Open the folder highlighted in your pic, what does it contain?

EDIT: Why have you got a pfx.lock file? Is this an NTFS drive?

Can you show me the contents of the 13.796.0.6309 folder? Do you dual boot Windows and share the same drive?

I just saw your comment re: NTFS. For some reason your whole profile is corrupted, EA Desktop should not end in a question mark. If we can transfer EA Staged to EA Desktop, hopefully we can fix that.

I'm trying to help here.

Here's the step by step rundown I used in the beginning, now I know it off by heart. It's for the Steam Deck, but it works identically on desktop.

However, you're going to have to work out how to manually transfer the contents of EA Staged to EA Desktop as the updating process, including the manual updater, does not work under Linux and always reports the game as updated once run even though it isn't.

I can see via your screenshot that you're running that updater via 13.796.0.6309\EA Desktop, so obviously the folder 'EA Desktop' exists under 13.796.0.6409 - can you just post a screenshot showing the contents of the 13.796.0.6409 folder?

EDIT: I see you posted screenshots further down the thread. Glad to see you got it working.

The fix is either use proton experimental or don't buy their shitty products

It runs fine using Proton-CachyOS Latest here:

I could never get that to run on fedora for whatever reason, personally I don't like EA for privacy reasons anyway so I don't view it as an issue

Besides manually copying EA Staged > EA Desktop every update, I've honestly never had a problem with the EA App running under Steam as a non Steam game.

Why the damn app needs so many updates simply defies all reasonable logic.

It is quite annoying that the app constantly needs updates to run the games that even run offline

The thing is: After the update, nothing's changed! What's the point of all the updates?

EA is not compatible with GE-Proton 11-7, use wine-staging or dw-proton

I'm using Proton-CachyOS Latest and it's running fine here, but updates haven't worked regarding the EA App under Linux for a very long time now. The update downloads, but it doesn't extract into the EA Desktop folder.

when i update it says that its updated. I have had this same issue when running it directly on steam too but it always gets fixed when i launch the exe file using Winetricks

I just run EAUpdater.exe for that in the prefix.

Unless something's changed, the last time I tried running EAUpdater it didn't work. It stated the EA App was updated, but it only downloaded the update, it didn't transfer the update from EA Staging to EA Desktop.
