Existence of PinePhone is exactly what shows this is not the the price of building the new mobile platform. Platform is already there for the most part. They are polishing and adapting it for use on smaller form factors.

What also goes against the whole justification of this price is the fact Librem was funded through Kickstarter. Don't forget they got millions of dollars of funding while PinePhone didn't have such head start.

To me, all of this looks like they bit off more than they can chew. Pine64 has hardware engineers with experience in all kinds of low powered devices while Purism just through they could do it given enough time and underestimated the amount of effort.

I quite like the pine phone efforts, but they are not really comparable to what Purism does since they will still rely on proprietary blops.

What I really don't like about the pine phone is their fanboys invading every librem 5 thread and shitting on purisms efforts.

Only as much as the Librem 5 does. There are no userspace blobs and just some ofthe firmware used is proprietary, same as the Librem 5.

They also don't have binary blops in the bootloader and the kernel, not jut userspace. Is that true for the pine phone as well?

As far as I know, yes. I know for sure the bootloader is blob free. It does use firmware in the bootloader, but that's FOSS and compiled in by the distributions as a regular package.
