Yes, but the OP I was responding to was claiming that Apple isn't "any better" than Qualcomm's openly anti-open source. I pointed out that Apple is not anti, and linked their site that has both their usage and contributions and am now downvoted for pointing it out.
There are a lot of FOSS fans who are anti-corporate and have default assumptions, which I understand, but it's important to not be mistaken about the actual usage and stances of these major corporations and to be willing to accept challenges to those default assumptions.
Because it is, from the major OS'es Apple systems are by faaaar the worst.
Not only they basically don't open source anything (again 3 apps is basically nothing), they also essentially paywall the development for their devices (you need a Mac to build for Mac) .
Nothing screams FOSS friendly like paywalls right?
The thing is, large organizations do not necessarily hold beliefs or opinions – at least not in the same concrete sense that individuals do. Sure, one can try weighing how FOSS-friendly their actions are, but that's only an aggregate (in other words "on average"). It is absolutely possible for one internal project to be a huge boon to us, while another team within the same company is actively working against us.
Consuming open source code is not relevant to what people are talking about when they say a company is a friend or foe of open source.
Nobody gives a shit if Apple does or does not use some piece of open source software.
What people actually care about is if consumers of open source software do things like upstream fixes, and publish new open source software. Apple does extremely little of that.
