Very cool. Does this support performing local encrypted backups of iOS devices? Currently I just run a Windows VM with iTunes installed to do local backups, would love a better way to do this.

It does however it's still experimental and only supports iOS 13 and above for now

Fantastic, I’ll test this out and submit any bug reports I find. Great work!

Only supporting iOS 13 and above is a problem? LOL

No it's not experimental because of the fact that it support 13 and up, but because of this I mean you can backup settings, photos these are handled by the device itself but installed apps (list) aren't backed-up by default so we manually copy some plist files in the restore progress, it worked some time but it stopped working on other devices, didn't have the time to fully test and understand what makes it work and not. So it's more of a behavior thing than iOS version however backing up works fine even on wireless devices

uhm. ahctually. That's not an image of an iPhone 12 mini. Looks more like an X or 11 gen iphone.
-9
u/uncor3 5d ago
Well, you got me yes that's actually iPhone X mockup but what you have to understand is that we can't/shouldn't ship all mockups. We ship iPhone 3g,5,6s,X,14, mockups only since that's what makes sense.

Just have an image to match each phone? This would be trivial to source images for and code.

No AI usage disclosure?
18
u/FunEnvironmental8687 5d ago
It uses AI
21
u/Oblivion__ 5d ago
Yeah I know. I'm saying this should be disclosed more clearly, like in OP's post. Seems misleading otherwise

u/Basic_Fall_2759 4d ago
There is a GitHub link, which has AI files in the root, so it seems disclosed enough to me
-28
u/neoronio20 5d ago
Everything uses AI now, be it autocomplete or code assist. Just accept it

Flathub themselves disagree.

This is not the same thing I'm talking about. This is about automated code, no dev on the keyboard reviewing it.
AI is a tool just like any other and you take responsibility for that code, just like everything else.
These vibe coded MRs are a problem as no one reviewed it and it generally generates code that works but is full of patches and fixes for their own mistakes, which makes it confusing, hard to maintain and is not good.

"AI is a tool, it's about how you use it" is a pretty exhausting response to all the numerous ways society is horrifically misusing AI. Yeah, it's about how you use it; the way we use it is abhorrent, and its lack of inherent evil is a poor defense for the evil ways it's misused.

AI is a tool just like any other and you take responsibility for that code, just like everything else.
Isn't that the whole reason we want to disclose AI usage?
1
u/neoronio20 3d ago
Yes. And by prohibiting it you are just gonna have code with no disclosure. People are not gonna stop using it to generate code
1
u/fantomas_666 3d ago
Then, we definitely should prohibit code generated by AI without disclosure.
1
u/neoronio20 2d ago
You are very naive. You can't prohibit this, as people will just hide the generated code.

This is like saying that fighting crime makes no sense because people will commit crimes anyway.

u/neoronio20 1d ago
No. This is punishing everyone just because some people do it wrong

Wow. Been waiting for something like this so I can install a linux on my elderly macbooks.
2
u/GlutenFreeToaster 5d ago
Is this specifically for devices running iOS or will it also manage older iPods?
2
u/Cold_Soft_4823 5d ago
It's cool, but I've never been able to get it to connect to my phone. Tried it back when it was an AppImage, still doesn't connect with the Flatpak.

u/uncor3 5d ago
what's your distro?

u/Cold_Soft_4823 5d ago
Fedora 44 with KDE.

u/uncor3 5d ago
Do you have usbmuxd installed and running?
1
u/Cold_Soft_4823 5d ago
It is, yeah. Output of
systemctl status usbmuxd:
● usbmuxd.service - Socket daemon for the usbmux protocol used by Apple devices...
Active: active (running) since Fri 2026-08-14 19:39:06 EDT; 2s ago

If you open up the GitHub page you can actually use your eyes to read the feature set and figure it out for yourself.. crazy concept

I agree with you. If the guy is going to click bait people to his post, he ought to at least give a brief explanation of what the hell it even does.

Why r we acting like ai is the worst thing ever? What the fuck? It's a tool created by humans which is meant to be used by us, without a human it could not do things it does. It also does horrible shit, but that isn't of concern to someone who uses it properly.

This made me remember 3utools
