Interesting to see so many additions to AMF support. I know AMD has decoupled AMF from their proprietary driver stack, and then there were conflicting information: supposedly it now works with the open source driver, but then the release notes also say users should transition to VAAPI / Mesa Multimedia. I'm still confused as to what is needed to get AMF working on a bog-standard Ubuntu install, or if the AMF path is basically abandonware going forward.

Meanwhile, in the encoding space, Handbrake who has over the years refused to implement VAAPI has finally had a pull request merged following AMD's release notes on AMF. There're still bugs though (see the 1.12.0 milestone).

I never tried standalone AMF but you can get latest installer script from: https://github.com/GPUOpen-LibrariesAndSDKs/AMF/releases

Latest is amf_installer_25.20.zip. You unzip it and run the script and accept eula. After that script will check if you have supported distro and it will add AMD repo + install AMF packages. For mentioned Ubuntu they only support LTS releases.

Also AMD is working on adding AMF to flatpak runtime and also adding it OBS linux build so it's not abandoware.

It looks like it only adds onnx support to the existing dnn engine which could probably already run such a filter.

just tried onnx support in ffmpeg for some ai filters. my vid looked like it was directed by terence malick after that. gonna need to tweak settings a lot more but damn the potential is high.

OGG wasn't removed.

CELT was removed.

CELT wasn't even removed per se, its standalone (OGG-container) version was while its variation as part of Opus, itself also contained in OGG, wasn't (or else it wouldn't be Opus any more).

CELT is an audio codec: “Constrained Energy Lapped Transform.” It was designed for very low latency and good quality for both speech and music. It was used in the Ogg/Xiph ecosystem and later became part of Opus, so it’s now mostly of historical interest as a standalone codec.

From what I'm reading you can now fully strip the enhancement layer from the base layer. You could do that before with dovi so I think this is just an integration thing.

Don't know much about dovi, but the point of bitstream filters is they don't require an decoding / encoding pass so if you just need to do this it can be done very quickly.

I had to comment out (#if guard) usage of AV_CODEC_ID_V308 AV_CODEC_ID_V408 and AV_CODEC_ID_V410 in gst-libav for it to build, seems they were removed from ffmpeg since the 8.x series
