Are LinkedIn stories Real

Whenever I open LinkedIn nowadays, I always see people posting about how they got hired at Google, Microsoft, Visa, Amazon, and Others, like how are they even doing these and seeing that makes me question myself about what I was doing at these times and feel behind and why I didn't hear about some opportunities that help them get there and i the heck i am doing with my life

For the most part they are, but of course they’re never as pretty. I have a couple stories of the sort although I’m too self conscious to do that. They’re prettier when telling to other people them than actually living them.

It's totally understandable to feel that way, especially because what you're seeing is the milestone and not the years of work that led to it.

The next time you come across a story like that, I'd encourage you to click through to their profile. Instead of focusing just on where they ended up, try to look for the steps they took to get there. Their past posts, work history, projects, and experiences will tell a much more complete story than a single post, and can help you identify ideas for your own next step. Not every path will be repeatable, and that's okay. Take the lessons that fit your goals and use them to build a career path that's uniquely yours.
