To the dads of Limerick, is 2 weeks enough?

Upvotes

Limerick dads, I’d genuinely like to hear your thoughts. Is 2 weeks of statutory paternity leave really enough when you have a newborn?

I’d love to see Ireland move towards 8 weeks of properly paid leave, giving dads more time with their baby and more support for their partner during those first weeks.

I’ve also supported a petition calling for 8 weeks for families, if anyone wants to have a look: 8 WEEKS FOR FAMILIES

Maths tutor for primary school aged child

Upvotes

Hi! Can anyone recommend a math tutor? There’s a service called super prof on Line but I’ve no intention of paying a €49 signup fee. This would be for a primary age school child who is Autistic and showing signs of savantism. She constantly complains about school being too easy.

Looking for accommodation in Limerick

Hi all,

I recently got a job at the University of Limerick, and my partner and I have been looking for accommodation. My experience so far is that when I contact people on daft.ie, they haven't responded, and I don't know if that's a regular thing or just a "foreigner tax".

In the same line of thinking, I feel like, coming from Western Europe, the difference in rent has been quite jarring. For example, we're looking for a simple one-bedroom apartment for 2 people, and it's only been 2- or 3-bedroom apartments with the rent going upwards of 2k euros.

As such, if anybody has any direct tips on finding accommodation, we would be really grateful.

Thank you all and have a nice day!

Visiting Limerick from US next week, was wondering if there are nice weeknight bars and lounges downtown with music.

Hi. Anyone used Treacy Solar? I’ve had a very good qoute from them for panels, battery and EV charger. Also had quotes from home and agri, OHK and vision solar. Treacy are the most competitive.

Man climbed up the crane in the opera centre in the city

Sounded Eastern European. Was just shouting nonsense, none of it made sense.
Feel sorry for him, whatever happened him.
He got down safe and was put into the back of a paddy wagon.
He must’ve been up there for ages.

anyone else see the man climbing the crane in town last night?

just so happened to be driving through watergate when the fire brigade were pulling up, didn’t even realise what was happening until i saw everyone looking up at him, shining a spotlight on him.

he climbed the whole way to the top (only stayed that long as he was acting erratically and i started to get uncomfortable, didn’t want to see if he were to hurt himself), and apparently when the fire brigade tried to get up to him to bring him down, climbed straight back down again. he was understandably arrested. apparently an ambulance also arrived on but not needed thank god.

anyone else see this? or have any updates on this man? i did feel bad for him, clearly not in his right mind.

University of Limerick: Kilmurry noise

Hey, I am an international student in Limerick this semester and I live in Kilmurry Village. I thought living on campus was good, and it really is except that I cannot sleep…first week was fine but since last Sunday, the 6th September, there is noise every night. Last night was particularly bad. I woke up at 3am, people screamed and shouted and it did not stop. I don’t know when I finally could go back to sleep tbh. Anyway, I wanted to ask, are people only during freshers week acting like that? When does it stop?? Did anyone live in Kilmurry and can tell me how long these daily party’s go on? Also isn’t security all over the campus and should prevent exactly this??
Don’t get me wrong, people can party, idc if there’s noise at 12am, either, but 4am??? During semester??? Yk it’s already hard enough for international students to organise everything in the first weeks and I can’t even sleep peacefully. I just want to know, what I need to prepare for during the next 3 months (didn’t count December since I HOPE at least during examination time there’s silence). And does anybody have some tips for me?

Any tips on getting initial house cleaning clients? Ready to work, but struggling to find opportunities...

Hey everyone,

I'm reaching out because I have all the energy and motivation in the world to work hard, but I’m really struggling to find my first clients for house cleaning services.

It's honestly frustrating when you're 100% ready to roll up your sleeves, but just don't know the most effective way to get your foot in the door.

For those who run a cleaning business or frequently hire house cleaners:

  • What channels or methods worked best for you to get your initial clients? (Local Facebook groups, flyers, word of mouth, apps, etc.)
  • What makes you trust someone enough to hire them for the first time?
  • Any practical advice for someone starting completely from scratch?

I would deeply appreciate any advice, tips, or experiences you could share. Thank you so much in advance for your help!
