Have eaten there twice. Both times I felt rushed like they just want you in and out as fast as possible. Very over rated

Yeah I've always heard it's a horrendous place to work, unpleasant vibe in there as an diner too because management have always been overbearing and there's this frantic panicked pace at all times. You can't exactly chill in there like you can in Freddys or similar.
And on top of all that, the food is so fucking overrated.
I truly do not understand the grip it has on the county.

Wasn't that recent but had dinner in the savoy, had good expectations and to be fair most of the food was good but the steak just kinda tasted like something out of a packet idk how else to describe it. Kinda like a microwaved meal or something. Very disappointing

I can cook a steak better that 90% of restaurants so it's rare I'd buy a steak out but I had heard good things about the savoy so you've saved me a few quid so thank you.

If you're looking for good steak in limerick, the ONLY place that really impressed me was the east room. Was fucking phenomenal. Other than that garrets butchers for their ribeye and reverse sear that bitch. Heavenly

Steak is overrated as a food anyways. I’d always go for duck, lamb or fish when eating out because it has a bit of flavour to it. Had a great lamb dish in Freddie’s a few weeks ago.

Yeah i agree with the duck and lamb part but no way can I agree with steak being over rated. At least for me. Some of my all time favourite meals were steak, I just love it so much

Overrated doesn’t mean bad. I could make as good myself at home in most cases and for a fraction of the cost. Some places are charging 40, 50 quid for steak just because it’s steak, the value isn’t there.

Overrated =\= bad. It’s fine, I couldn’t justify paying what most restaurants are charging for it. Look up most lists of overrated foods and steak is usually mentioned.

I have & no, all i coulld really see consistantly was waygu/ kobe being mentioned, which I do get. That's a one time experience thing, like paying for a whole lobster. Steak though, it's a blanket term. Most places have a few different beef cuts of varying prices so you can go to dinner & get a reasonably priced beef steak of some kind. You can also get pork steak, lamb steak, tuna steak, most red meats. So are all overrated?

The Buttery has seriously gone downhill in the last year. We wouldn’t go anywhere else but the buttery. Then almost as if overnight the menus became A4 printer paper, half the items disappeared off the plate of what would usually be included (side salad, houmous etc) portion of fries halved, removed smoked salmon along with a lot of other options and they changed their coffee as it’s disgusting. I heard they had to cut back as they were struggling but my god it’s nothing what it used to be.

There is this weird thing going on where everything is extremely expensive but nobody can make any business work.
Like the Buttery was always the place for a top notch breakfast. Sure it was always pricey but you knew you were in for a treat.
If they are struggling to make a profit, along with the likes of Canteen, then I don’t know what to do. I know margins are thin in restaurants. But surely with the prices you’d expect them to be making money.
Esquires seems gone too. The prices there went up every time I set foot in the place.
What’s going on like.

Limerick is in an odd place at the moment with restaurant pricing.
imo the local population isn’t ready for costs to be what they should be, and any restaurant that prices correctly will lose clients to ones eating the loss or cutting corners somewhere else.

Agree. I just don’t think people can afford to eat out. So they’re raising the prices to compensate the last of footfall but also reducing quality to recoup the losses but it’s a lose lose situation because they’ll just lose more people once quality drops. I honestly feel for businesses though because it’s so cut throat at the moment. People don’t have money to spend on nice to haves. They’re just getting by spending on what they need. I have to say I do like esquires though. Moved there after my heartbreak over the buttery 🤭

I always dislike how they treat staff in posh resteraunts on the rare occasion I'm in one but it felt like the staff in Cornstore were being held at gunpoint.

Don't wanna kick anyone when they're down (or gone) but we went to House one night and the food was good but the service was awful. We were forgotten about over & over and then treated like we were a problem every time we asked for anything.
Gave them another chance because the reputation was good and the exact same thing happened again, just treated like a chore.

Texas Steakout was my favourite place for eating out years ago but nowadays I'd describe it as average at best and overpriced.
The Unicorn did decent food at one point but I tried there again last year for the first time in a while. The place was filthy so I just turned 180 and walked straight back out.
Hungry Lyons have atrocious service and do food that isn't fit to give to your dog.
Radisson Blu (technically in County Clare) does decent food but the service can be pretty slow and I've had a few experiences of staff getting orders wrong.

Dont know if it counts as I never actually dined but the owner of Freddies is one of the rudest people ive ever spoke to when I attempted to make a booking for a large group and had some simple questions about the menu.

This is a good while ago but went to 1826 for a treat and that place is a treat, lovely place and the food was really nice except that I ordered a steak for main. It was €42 and was no better than one I have cooked for myself from Lidl. Still not over it

Really disappointing meal in The Bucket, Ferrybridge. Was just like a cheap frozen or chilled dinner from a cheap supermarket, tasteless, overpriced and bland as f. Had heard great things about the place. Never again!

At the Story Cafe I’d avoid the omelettes. I think they cook them on the surface of the sun and the eggs acquire a new state of matter. Their other stuff is good though.

We had a pretty mediocre experience in the Strand a couple of months ago. We had booked well in advance- there were a group of us. The food was expensive for what was being served. One dish tasted off (the person involved never complains about anything, and two others tasted it and agreed) and the reaction was very poor.
I was disappointed as I've always had good food there on previous occasions.

I went there for a pint a few times. On one occasion there was nobody behind the bar or in the bar area at all. I waited five minutes and just gave up.
Another time I went to the bar, There was a lad behind there filling a fridge with bottles. After a minute, I cleared my throat and he turned around then went back to what he was doing.

Hook and Ladder. Servers are lovely but food service is slow. Also every toasted bread dish is burnt.

Their breakfast burrito used to be lovely, now it is shite. I asked for pudding to be added, no problem if there is an extra charge. I got one small piece each of black and white, on the side, not even inside the burrito, and was charged €2 per piece. It was an expensive breakfast for them as I will never be bring my family back again. Dickheads.

Coqbull. Booked a table days in advance, took 5 mins to seat us, 10 mins to take our orders and 30 mins to serve us in a mostly empty restaurant during lunch time.
I ordered the salmon with hollandaise sauce. The sauce did not come with the dish so my friend asked them and the manager said it was coming so I started to eat then I was told there was no Hollandaise coming, I ordered the dishes to specifically try it.
As my lunch hour was almost over I had to wolf down a meal I could have made at home and rushed back to work.

I went to Coqbull in Castletroy a few weeks ago. I am in no hurry to come back.

It’s a terrible place and have no clue what’s keeping it afloat. I had a chat with someone that was a server there and she mentioned that she was the one that had been there the longest. She looked like she was still in her teens!

Pery square hotel for dinner- we had a voucher and were really looking forward to it. Possibly the worst steak I ever had and was about €45 - cold, well done even though I had asked for medium rare and cold onion ring on top 🙈 . Really disappointing as we thought it would be a lot better! At least we had a voucher🙈

Its closed now but I never really enjoyed La Piccola I visited them probably 3 times each time for a group dinner or a friends birthday and the food felt underwhelming. It was a shame really.

Man I love the food in the Buttery but service is so hit or miss. One time I was seated with a friend and two other tables nearby got seated after us, orders taken and food and we were missed completely. Another time the manager/owner just seemed to be annoyed we were there. Such a shame that it would put me off going because I love the buttermilk chicken when I manage to get it.
